The gunshot victim turned up at a hospital after deputies searched for evidence of a shooting near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Figueroa Drive, according to Lt. Julie Pinedo of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station. Deputies responded to reports of gunfire heard just before 5:30 p.m. Thursday, January 25. The search turned up no evidence of gunfire until deputies were informed of the wounded man, Pinedo told SGV CityWatch. Witnesses reported two males fleeing the area where the shooting occurred. There was no description immediately available. Pinedo did not immediately know if the man wounded by gunfire was the intended target. The man was later discharged from the hospital. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Operation Safe Streets Bureau were called to the scene, Pinedo told SGV CityWatch. Jeffrey Brown, 61, died from as of yet unknown causes. The determination of what led to his death has been deferred pending additional investigation, according to the coroner. First responders were called around Noon to a report of a man not breathing in a wash 20 yards of a hiking trail at the first hairpin turn off Pinecrest Drive, according to Lt. Ramirez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station. It is unclear how long Brown was dead before being discovered. Brown is assumed to be homeless, according to the coroner. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor UPDATE - 5:01 p.m.: The brush fire above Altadena has burned roughly 10 acres. The majority of the fire has been stopped, said the U.S. Forest Service. Firefighters are building containment lines to suppress remaining active flames. Millard Trail Camp, which is above the brush fire, is under mandatory evacuation, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. ALTADENA - A two-acre brush fire is burning uphill near Loma Alta Drive and Chaney Trail, Los Angeles County Firefighters report. A full brush response including four helicopters have been sent to battle the fire, which was reported around 3:26 p.m. September 22. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are also on scene and are working to evacuate patrons at a campground in the area of the fire. The still-unidentified suspect was taken to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - The hiker stabbed in a seemingly-unprovoked knife attack on an Altadena hiking trail is in stable condition, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said. The suspect accused of attacking the hiker is still hospitalized with his own injuries and has yet to be booked, according to Lt. David Holwager of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Altadena Station. The still-unidentified suspect appeared to be a transient, but deputies have not definitively learned the suspect’s residency, Holwager said. He was earlier described by a Sheriff’s sergeant as a transient.
The hiker was attacked before 8 p.m. on a trail in Eaton Canyon. The suspect reportedly jumped from some bushes and stabbed the hiker in the chest multiple times, according to Sgt. Brooks of the Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station. The hiker ran back to his home near Eaton Canyon, the suspect gave chase and reportedly continued to attack, Brooks said. Deputies found the suspect standing in a residential yard and the hiker who collapsed from his injuries, Brooks said. The suspect was arrested without incident. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - Six boys, ranging in age from 12 to 15, were found and arrested after fleeing their youth facility, burglarizing two home and fleeing deputies Sunday afternoon.
The boys were accused of taking several firearms, including handguns, rifles and a pellet gun from a home in the 500 block of Mountain View around 2:15 p.m. The boys then burglarized a second home in the 600 block of Mountain View, discovered one hour later, said Lt. Gary Harman of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. The boys were being cared for at the Sycamores School, 2933 El Nido Dr. in Altadena, Harman said. Deputies responding to the second burglary almost immediately detained a 13-year-old boy and later detained a second boy, possibly 12, Harman said. Two more boys fled the second home, but were later found in a containment area set up by responding deputies. The sixth outstanding boy later returned to Sycamores School. Staff notified deputies who took the boy into custody. All stolen weapons were recovered, Harman said. The boys, facing at least burglary charges, were taken to the Barry J. Nordof Juvenile Hall in Sylmar. Deputies are still searching for a suspect linked to a home burglary, which was reported at 3:15 p.m., said Sgt. Taylor of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. A wide containment search is in progress in the general area of Casitas Avenue and Figueroa Drive. Taylor had yet to speak to his field supervisor who is at the containment search to confirm how many teens were involved in the burglary and if weapons were taken in the home. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic, multiple weapons, including what was initially described as an “AR,” likely referring to an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle. Several teens were initially reported in custody. |
