Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - A woman died in a rollover crash that injured as many as five others October 15. The collision occurred at East Woodbury Road near Fiske Avenue just before Noon. A black Ford Escape and a silver Honda Odyssey collided. The Escape overturned, while the Odyssey sustained major front end damage, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. Firefighters arrived on scene and found the woman trapped inside one of the vehicles. The woman died at the scene, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Five other people received minor injuries: two children under 3 in one vehicle were taken to an area trauma center. In the second vehicle, a woman and child were hospitalized while two other children older than 3 ended up without being transported, Rangel said. The circumstances surrounding the collision have yet to be publicly shared by the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the crash. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor UPDATE - 5:01 p.m.: The brush fire above Altadena has burned roughly 10 acres. The majority of the fire has been stopped, said the U.S. Forest Service. Firefighters are building containment lines to suppress remaining active flames. Millard Trail Camp, which is above the brush fire, is under mandatory evacuation, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. ALTADENA - A two-acre brush fire is burning uphill near Loma Alta Drive and Chaney Trail, Los Angeles County Firefighters report. A full brush response including four helicopters have been sent to battle the fire, which was reported around 3:26 p.m. September 22. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are also on scene and are working to evacuate patrons at a campground in the area of the fire. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - Occupants were told to shelter in place after a number of people suffered some irritation from an unknown chemical inside a building Saturday afternoon. An adult male passed out at 760 W Mountain View St. Health hazmat personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported an unknown liquid may have sickened the man, firefighters said. Firefighters were called to the location at 5:46 p.m. April 20.
Other victims suffered bouts of coughing. The address belongs to Five Acres, a child and family services organization. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ALTADENA - A fire damaged a garage at a home Tuesday morning and firefighters are determining the cause. The fire occurred inside a detached 1,000-square-foot, two-vehicle garage in the 2000 block of East New York Avenue. Firefighters were dispatched just after 9 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The garage also had an attached bedroom. It is unclear if any vehicles were inside the garage.
