Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor MOUNTAINS - A 64-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene of a solo crash on Mt. Wilson Red Box Road Tuesday night.
The crash was reported near Los Angeles County Fire marker 0.31. The victim’s 2011 Ford vehicle veered to the right of the road after hitting a raised curb, crashed through a guard rail and down a steep embankment where it hit several large trees, according to the California Highway Patrol. A passerby located the vehicle, its headlights and tail light still on. It’s horn endlessly blared. The passerby traveled down the mountains to call for help, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Los Angeles County Firefighters, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies and the Montrose Search and Rescue team all responded. Search and rescue personnel descended to the crashed vehicle and discovered the man deceased just before 10 p.m. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Michael Falcon, 32, died at the scene, Rancho Glendora Mobile Villas, 1630 S. Barranca Avenue April 19. The cause of death has been deferred, pending additional testing, according to Lt. David Smith of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Hazmat technicians were called to determine if Fentanyl played a role in Falcon’s death, police said. The hazmat technicians were called out of an abundance of caution to the scene, given the incredibly potent toxicity of Fentanyl. An adult female was hospitalized, according to Lt. Rob Lamborghini of the Glendora Police Department. Detectives don’t believe anything dangerous was found, Lamborghini said. Khristal Soledad Selva, 29, was booked by Anaheim Police on suspicion of armed carjacking April 19. Selva took a 2008 Kia Rio at gunpoint from a 79-year-old driver, Anaheim Police said. Selva approached her victim, pretending to cry and asked for a ride in order to steal the vehicle., Anaheim Police said. The carjacking occurred near Disneyland in the parking lot of the Holiday Station Post Office, 1180 W. The rig overturned around 10:58 p.m. on the transition from the westbound 60 freeway to the 605 freeway split. The big rig driver was killed in the crash, according to Officer Dion Conley of the California Highway Patrol. A brand new route for the CicLAvia event will kick off the event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate Earth Day, organizers said. Billed as the country’s biggest open streets event, CicLAvia promotes active transportation and good health by organizing car-free streets for people to walk, bike ride, or skate through asphalt streets. CicLAvia is inspired from Bogotá, Columbia’s Cicloviá events. The event will begin at San Dimas Park and Ride, 205 S. San Dimas Ave., follow Bonita Avenue east, turn south on Fulton Road in Pomona, east on Arrow Highway into Claremont, north on South College Avenue and to the Claremont Metrolink Station. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - A South Gate woman who allegedly took her children during a supervised visitation and led authorities on a pursuit before crashing enter a not guilty plea in court last month.
Misty Dennis, 27, pleaded not guilty to two counts each of kidnapping, child detention with right to custody, child abuse and one count each of fleeing a pursuing a peace officer and resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer, said Greg Risling of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Dennis was seeing her children at the Department of Children and Family Services in Ladera Heights March 27. Dennis allegedly took off with the children, whom she does not have custody of, when a worker’s back was turned and drove off. Authorities were able to “ping” the woman’s cell phone and pinpointed her location to Whittier. Authorities located Dennis and her children, but she drove off and led authorities on a pursuit, sometimes reaching speeds of 90 miles per hour. The pursuit, which briefly spanned the northbound 605 freeway, wound its way on surface streets into Bassett where Dennis collided with a Foothill Transit bus. Dennis fled the crashed car, leaving her children behind. Dennis is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing set for May 14. REGION - A bomb threat was emailed to multitudes of schools Friday the 13th, setting off investigations to find the source of the message.
Schools across California, Virginia, Georgia, Ohio and more received an email bomb threat, likely as part of a widespread hoax, authorities reported. The Glendora Unified School District received the email threat, district official Michelle Hunter said in an email to parents Friday. "The Glendora Unified School District was one of many districts across the state who received an email bomb threat today. Glendora Police Department was immediately contacted and again is being proactive in monitoring our campuses as well as immediately investigating the threat. It was determined to be a hoax and sent by the same entity that sent the threats earlier in the week," Hunter said. Glendora Police are investigating the threat, but detectives are fairly confident the threat is part of the same widely-distributed hoax, said Lt. Rob Lamborghini of the Glendora Police Department. The woman is driving a reported stolen green Toyota Camry. California Highway Patrol units from the Baldwin Park area office took over the chase as it sped north on the 71 freeway at Holt Avenue about 50 minutes ago. The CHP attempted a PIT maneuver near Azusa Avenue on the westbound 210 freeway, but the suspect drove away and evaded them briefly going east in westbound lanes. The chase is currently southbound on the 405 freeway Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor MONTCLAIR - The Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force arrested a man in his Montclair home Wednesday, accusing him of dealing drugs and weapons to Pomona gang members.
Tom McGhuey, 59, was arrested at 12:05 a.m. at his home, 10660 Silicon Ave. in Montclair with the assistance of the Pomona SWAT team. The Pomona MCTF issued a search warrant for McGhuey after gathered intelligence fingered McGhuey as the narcotics and firearms dealer, Pomona Police. Confiscated were weapons, police described as “assault style rifles,” several rounds of high-caliber ammunition and 170 pounds of marijuana, Pomona Police said. McGhuey was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition and possession of an unregistered firearm. McGhuey was booked at the West Valley Detention Center. |
