Anthony Davis, 61, was charged with one count of murder in the death of a man at the Spic and Span Motel on or about January 7, 1978. The victim, 42-year-old Rudolfo Chavez was found by a motel employee, according to Greg Risling, assistant media chief with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. DNA evidence collected at the crime scene led back to Davis, Risling said in a written statement. Davis is ex pected to be arraigned in department and other Pomona superior court today, February 19. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office failed to state the possible sentence Davis could face in this crime if he is convicted. This case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies accuse 46-year-old Sergio Rodriguez of attempted murder with a knife, attempted murder with a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon while using a knife, assault with a deadly weapon while using a firearm, carjacking and possession of a controlled substance. Nine victims were identified, the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station said in a written statement. Rancho Cucamonga deputies responded to the area of Milliken Avenue and the 210 freeway at 1:17 a.m. Wednesday to a report of someone who shot at a vehicle, damaging one of the tires. The suspect fled in a red 1993 Honda Accord southbound on Milliken Avenue until he crashed into an occupied vehicle at Milliken and baseline Road. The suspect is accused of attempting to carjack the victim after the latter pulled over in the wake of the crash. Rodriguez allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times, the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station said in a written statement. The suspect fled again in the Honda Accord, drove into an apartment complex where he rammed another vehicle as the driver waited for a security gate to open. The suspect walked to the damaged vehicle, opened the driver side door and stabbed the driver several times, the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station said. The suspect fled to Milliken and Foothill Boulevard where deputies located the suspect, identified as Rodriguez, as he attempted to abandon his Honda Accord. “Deputies saw Rodriguez and attempted to detain him. He was uncooperative and slashed at a deputy with a box cutter, striking him in the abdominal and groin area. The box cutter did not penetrate the deputy’s vest but sliced his uniform shirt and pants,” according to the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station in a written statement. Detectives soon learned that Rodriguez is connected to multiple other shooting incidents along the 210 freeway, with one victim receiving a gunshot wound to the leg. Rodriguez is being held in lieu of $4 million bail at the West Valley Detention Center. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - A Monterey Park man was official charged May 7 with one count of murder in the stabbing death of his mother. 34-year-old Alexander Joshua Escobar is accused of stabbing to death 65-year-old Josephine Reyes, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The murder count includes an allegation of using a knife, according to Deputy District Attorney Melanie Buccat. Escobar is accused of stabbing his mother multiple times in the home they shared in the 1700 block of Alisar Avenue May 5.
Escobar allegedly called police and admitted to dealing the fatal blows. Monterey Park Police officers found the suspect with his hands up. He was detained without incident, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. “When officers entered the residence, they found a female Hispanic in her 60’s with multiple stab wounds to the upper torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene,” Sheriff’s investigators said. Two knives were recovered at the scene. Bail is set at more than $2 million. If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison, the county DA said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION – The suspect accused of stabbing an Uber driver and holding law enforcement at bay into the nighttime hours appeared in court February 20. Ricky Andrew Alvarez, 23, pleaded not guilty to one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon (knife), assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury; and assault with a deadly weapon by means likely to produce great bodily injury on transportation personnel or passenger, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Public Information Officer Ricardo Santiago. The allegation includes that Alvarez inflicted great bodily injury upon the victim. Alvarez allegedly stabbed an Uber driver multiple times February 17 just before 1 p.m. Witnesses helped Glendora Police locate Alvarez, who fled into a room at the Glendora Motel, 330 W. Route 66, where five other people associated with him were staying. The Uber driver was treated on scene by paramedics and was taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to the Glendora Police Department. The regional Foothills Special Enforcement Team, a SWAT team made of officers from nearby police departments, responded to assist in apprehending the people barricaded inside one of the hotel rooms. After hours of negotiations, the six exited the motel and where detained.
One of the six was transported to an area hospital for undisclosed reasons. Also arrested from the hotel room were Frank Zavalza, 30; Bridgette Irene Hamlin, 23; Luis Davila, 23; and Larissa Breann Cano, 21. The four others arrested were booked on suspicion of identity theft and obstructing an officer. Cano and Hamlin were additional booked for warrants, according to Glendora Police booking records. Alvarez is being held in the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina Courthouse March 16. Los Angeles man Miguel Castaneda, 24, and Pasadena woman Valentina Rosales, 25, entered their pleas Tuesday in he stabbing death of Demetrio Tapia Jr. Castaneda, who pleaded to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter and admitted using a knife, faces 12 years in state prison. Rosales, who pleaded to one felony count of accessory after the fact, faces four years in prison, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

32-year-old Rafael Sanchez of Baldwin Park was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison. He was found guilty November 19, 2019 of first degree murder in the death of 21-year-old Daniel Anthony Sanchez, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The stabbing occurred inside Domino’s, 1073 N. Hacienda Blvd., March 10, 2018. Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station responded at 5:59 p.m. Rafael objected to Daniel Sanchez telling him to do his job. Rafael snuck up behind his supervisor and stabbed him in the neck and back. The knife reportedly used in the stabbing was recovered. Daniel Sanchez was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead, according to detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - The suspect whom prosecutors allege stabbed and killed a rider on the Gold Line as it left the Azusa downtown station towards Irwindale pleaded guilty to the crime. 52-year-old Peter Muñoz of Commerce pleaded guilty January 8 to one felony count of first-degree murder in the death of Xuezhong Bao, 62. Muñoz was immediately sentenced to 26 years to life in state prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Muñoz also admitted to using a knife during the commission of the crime, prosecutors said. The stabbing occurred November 27, 2018 as the East Los Angeles-bound train left the Azusa Downtown Station towards Irwindale. Muñoz was arrested as he exited the train in Duarte, prosecutors said. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau, which patrols Los Angeles County Metro lines and Metrolink, received a 9-1-1 transfer call from Irwindale Police at 11:30 a.m. initially describing an attack on either the platform or westbound train in Irwindale, according to Deputy Ramon Montenegro. The train continued westbound and stopped at the Duarte/City of Hope Station, where the suspect and victim were met by deputies.
A passenger, who wished to not be identified, was at the Duarte Station awaiting an eastbound train and witnessed riders fleeing from the passenger car where the victim lay lifeless, deputies taking the suspect into custody, a crime scene in progress. “[I] Was waiting for the train to go to citrus, the E/B train arrived people ran off when deputies got there the ones on the train pointed out the suspect. They arrested him,” said the passenger in a Facebook message to SGV CityWatch. “When fire got there, they started CPR for 15 min. Then stopped. The deputies put up crime tape so I left,” The passenger said. Bao died at the scene from a wound to the upper torso. The knife was recovered, deputies said. Xa Dinh Ngo, 39, also referred to as “Michelle” Ngo, had her arraignment continued to July 29, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Ngo faces one count of murder with a special allegation of using a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife, in the death of her son, Elvis Puente. Ngo allegedly stabbed her son to death multiple times, prosecutors said. Details surrounding Puente’s death remain under a law enforcement security hold, according to Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Ngo was briefly hospitalized after a Covina patrol sergeant found Ngo running down the road in the 300 block of North Second Avenue, half-naked and with blood splatters on her body, January 11, 2019 around 3:30 a.m. Police learned Ngo’s address and discovered a small fire on the second floor of her townhome at 141 E. Italia St. once they arrived. Her son was discovered dead in the townhome.
Ngo was uncooperative with officers once detained, but alluded to a possible victim, Covina Police said. Ngo was arrested by Covina Police detectives on suspicion of murder once she was discharged. It is unclear if Ngo suffered from a mental condition, or was under the influence of drugs. If convicted as charged, Ngo could face a maximum of 26 years to life in state prison. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Police continue to search for the suspect who stabbed two people -- both ended up in the San Gabriel Valley Sunday night. The victims were apparently stabbed in Boyle Heights at Soto Street and Wabash Avenue around 8:15 p.m. April 7 by a Hispanic man. Both victims are in stable condition, according to Sal Ramirez, Los Angeles Police Department public information officer. The victims both ended up near Hellman Avenue and New Avenue on the Rosemead/Monterey Park border where they called 9-1-1 around 9:16 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Temple Station.
It is unclear how the victims ended up in the San Gabriel Valley. Anyone with information on the stabbing is urged to call the LAPD Hollenbeck Community Police Station at 323-342-4100.

HUNTINGTON BEACH - A Glendora man and Covina man were arrested Tuesday after an altercation led to the stabbing of a woman.
23-year-old Brandon Lebrun of Glendora and 19-year-old Dominic Piraino of Covina were taken into custody near the scene of the stabbing April 2. Witness accounts and suspect descriptions led to the finding and arrest of the suspects, Huntington Beach Police said. The stabbing occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the Downtown Huntington Beach area. A brief video recording posted by a witness to social media shows a woman arguing with the suspects as they sat in a silver four-door car. The woman kicked the front passenger door.

The men yelled at the woman and she went back for an additional confrontation when the passenger stabbed her. A struggle for the knife ensued and the woman walked away, clutching the knife jammed in her abdomen.
The woman was treated for a non-life-threatening injury, Huntington Beach Police said. “Several witnesses called into our dispatch center and provided numerous license plates. Officers began to check different combinations of the differing license plates provided by witnesses and found a match to the reported suspect vehicle,” Huntington Beach Police said. “Utilizing several police resources along with great communication between officers and dispatchers, they were able to locate the suspect vehicle in a nearby location,”Huntington Beach Police said. Both Lebrun and Piraino were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Piraino was additionally booked on suspicion of attempted murder. |
