Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor RANCHO CUCAMONGA - The victim of an attempted carjacking fought off two aggressors January 9 and suffered a gunshot wound to one of his hands during the ordeal.
The crime went down in the 9000 block of Foothill Boulevard around 3:34 p.m. Rancho Cucamonga deputies originally responded to a report of gunfire and soon discovered it was an attempted carjacking as well. Both suspects, identified as Lorenzo Ortiz, 41, and Raymond Joshua Bowman, 26, fled after failing to take the victim’s vehicle. Officers found and arrested both suspects as they attempted to flee the area, according to the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station. The 41-year-old victim Was hospitalized for his injuries. Ortiz and Bowman were booked at the West Valley Detention Center. Ortiz was officially charged with one count each of attempted carjacking and an allegation under California’s Three Strikes Law. He pleaded not guilty, according to San Bernardino County Superior Court records. He is being held in lieu of $140,000 bail. Bowman was officially charged with one count, each of attempted carjacking, an enhancement of using a firearm and enhancement of discharging a firearm, according to San Bernardino County Superior Court records. He is being held in lieu of $190,000 bail. Both suspects have since made an initial appearance in court and are scheduled for a preliminary hearing January 17. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The California Highway Patrol arrested a carjacking and pursuit suspect after he fled across lanes of the 110 freeway south of the 91 freeway Tuesday. A victim called El Monte Police around 11:42 p.m. July 9 to report being carjacked on the I-10 freeway east of the 605 in Baldwin Park. El Monte officers located the vehicle, the driver refused to stop and fled south on the 605 freeway, according to Lt. Michael Buckhannon of the El Monte Police Department. The pursuit was turned over to the CHP. Officers from a handful of CHP stations chased the suspect as he drove through area freeways. The suspect attempted to take the south 110 freeway from the northbound 405, but lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
The suspect ran across north and southbound lanes of the 110 freeway and was caught a short time later, according to a written statement provided by Simeon Yarbrough of the California Highway Patrol South Los Angeles Area office. Arrested was Gabriel Lopez, 33, who was booked on suspicion of carjacking, kidnapping, grand theft and vehicle theft. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to the CHP. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MOUNTAINS - A vicim of vehicle theft is uninjured after a man she met in Azusa Wednesday attacked her and took her vehicle, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said. The victim met the man in Azusa through social media. The woman drove to the man in, where he then got behind the wheel and took both of them to Highway 39 at mile marker 26.91. During a hike along the river, the suspect attacked her and took her car, said Lt. Mark Skaggs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The woman called for help around 3:30 p.m. February 6.
The two met at San Gabriel Canyon Road and Mirador Drive in Azusa, Skaggs said. “They went for a walk down by the river and he shoved her into the water and then ran back up and stole the car,” Skaggs said. “She was able to flag down somebody who gave her a ride back down the hill where she was able to call us,” Skaggs said. Stolen was a black 2011 Toyota Prius. The suspect is still outstanding, Skaggs said. Ramon Lopez Jr., 39, died after going into cardiac arrest. He was subdued by drivers who were stopped on the I-10 freeway west of San Gabriel Boulevard Monday -- drivers caught in the traffic jam Lopez apparently caused, according to the California Highway Patrol. According to witnesses, a GMC Safari was seen driving erratically in eastbound lanes west of New Avenue around 11:17 a.m. The driver of the Safari stopped and exited the SUV west of San Gabriel Boulevard when the SUV became disabled after hitting several vehicles, the CHP said. Armed with a tire iron, Lopez jumped on top of a stopped BMW and began destroying the windshield, the CHP said. The BMW driver was uninjured. Lopez’s tirade continued and he allegedly destroyed the left side window of a stopped Toyota Corolla, the CHP said. Lopez then ran full-force into a stopped Ford Explorer, causing damage. Lopez began yelling at the driver and grabbed at the door handles, possibly in an attempt to carjack the driver, the CHP said. A group of stopped drivers then pinned Lopez to the pavement until an ambulance arrived. Lopez went into cardiac arrest. He was transported to an area hospital, according to CHP radio traffic. Lopez was declared dead just before Noon, the CHP said. The driver of the BMW was hospitalized for shock. The SUV was reported stolen out of Huntington Park. Two men took the SUV, but only Lopez was inside during the freeway chaos, according to CHP radio traffic. The whereabouts of the second suspect are unknown. Khristal Soledad Selva, 29, was booked by Anaheim Police on suspicion of armed carjacking April 19. Selva took a 2008 Kia Rio at gunpoint from a 79-year-old driver, Anaheim Police said. Selva approached her victim, pretending to cry and asked for a ride in order to steal the vehicle., Anaheim Police said. The carjacking occurred near Disneyland in the parking lot of the Holiday Station Post Office, 1180 W. Ball Rd., around 12:40 p.m. The victim gave Selva a ride after the victim discovered her crying in the parking lot of the victim’s apartment complex Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor MOUNTAINS – A suspect is still outstanding after shooting a man and woman in the Azusa Canyon late Monday night.
A 20-year-old man was listed in critical condition, a 19-year-old woman was listed as stable after being shot during an attempted carjacking. The incident took place along San Gabriel Canyon Road near mile marker 23, according to Sgt. Wilson Wong of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. Azusa Police notified San Dimas deputies of two shooting victims who drove down from the canyon and stopped at Eleventh Street and San Gabriel Canyon Road at 11:22 p.m. The suspect, described as a Hispanic man in a grey hoodie, fled in a 2000’s-model Ford Mustang.
