Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor MOUNTAINS - A 64-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene of a solo crash on Mt. Wilson Red Box Road Tuesday night.
The crash was reported near Los Angeles County Fire marker 0.31. The victim’s 2011 Ford vehicle veered to the right of the road after hitting a raised curb, crashed through a guard rail and down a steep embankment where it hit several large trees, according to the California Highway Patrol. A passerby located the vehicle, its headlights and tail light still on. It’s horn endlessly blared. The passerby traveled down the mountains to call for help, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Los Angeles County Firefighters, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies and the Montrose Search and Rescue team all responded. Search and rescue personnel descended to the crashed vehicle and discovered the man deceased just before 10 p.m. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor WHITTIER - A Sig Alert remains in effect after a collision killed the driver of a big rig on the 60 freeway Thursday night.
The rig overturned around 10:58 p.m. on the transition from the westbound 60 freeway to the 605 freeway split. The big rig driver was killed in the crash, according to Officer Dion Conley of the California Highway Patrol. The Sig Alert will remain until likely 8:15 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor REGION - A motorcyclist from Hacienda Heights was identified as the man who died after striking a minivan March 30.
Roy Anthony Trent, 47, died at the intersection of Hacienda Boulevard and Del Prado Drive when he struck a Toyota Sienna minivan driven by a 37-year-old woman from San Gabriel. Trent was identified by Inspector Rudy Molano of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The collision occurred around 2:15 p.m. Friday. The driver of a Toyota Sienna minivan was turning east onto Del Prado Drive from southbound Hacienda Boulevard. Trent was driving northbound on Hacienda in the No. 2 lane when the crash occurred. The minivan’s driver, a San Gabriel woman, was uninjured. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, the CHP said. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor PICO RIVERA - One driver was arrested after crashing and rolling a gold Toyota Corolla over an embankment on the 605 freeway Sunday morning.
The crash was reported around 5:27 a.m. on the north 605 north of Rose Hills Road. Passersby witnessed the Corolla go off the freeway, into the grass and bushes, roll over and land back on its wheels, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The driver was arrested by a CHP officer at 7:14 a.m., but the charges the suspect is accused of were not immediately known, according to Officer Peter Nicholson of the CHP. Nicholson was unauthorized to give out the name of the suspect. Other passersby reported the driver of the Corolla may have hit other vehicles and was driving in excess of 100 miles per hour prior to crashing. The driver was not trapped and was able to self extricate from the Corolla. It appears the driver was the only occupant in the car and no one was transported to a hospital, according to Dispatch Supervisor Melanie Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor MOUNTAINS - At least two people were injured in a crash on San Gabriel Canyon Road near the Off-Highway Vehicle area.
The two vehicles collided on San Gabriel Canyon Road two miles south of East Fork Road. No one was trapped in the vehicles, which sustained major front-end damage, according to Dispatch Supervisor Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol. The collision was dispatched just after Noon. Sims did not have the level of injuries and how many patients were injured,. but the U.S. Forest Service initially stated a 15-year-old female and 18-year-old male suffering abdominal pain. A 54-year-old apparently suffered no injuries. A Sheriff’s rescue helicopter transported at least one patient to an area hospital. |
