Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EAST HOLLYWOOD - All five suspects accused of robbing a Pasadena store and fleeing police in a wild, reckless pursuit were arrested Friday after hiding among East Hollywood homes.
Two of the suspects suffered dog bites when K9s were sent in after the suspects refused to come out from their hiding spots in the area of Melrose Avenue and Kingsley Drive in East Hollywood December 21. The unidentified suspects are accused of robbing Shant’s Clock and Watch Repair, 8 E. Holly St., in Old Town Pasadena around 4:20 p.m. Officers located the Kia Soul being driven away from the scene and attempted to stop it. The suspects recklessly evaded Pasadena Police and the California Highway Patrol across the 134, 210, 101 and 170 freeways until reaching surface streets in the Hollywood area, only to continue their reckless evading. The driver sometimes used opposing lanes to flee authorities. The suspects exited the Kia Soul and fled on foot through residential yards, setting off a multi-agency search. Four suspects were in custody by 9 p.m. Two hours later, the fifth subject was arrested. Alex Edward Evans, 30, is facing one count of murder with the allegation of using a knife as a deadly and dangerous weapon in the slaying of his 67-year-old mother, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Evans allegedly called 9-1-1 around 9:16 p.m. and told the dispatcher he killed his mother inside her home in the 1100 block of north Mentor Avenue, Pasadena Police said. The dispatcher kept Evans on the phone until police arrived. He was ordered out of the home and was detained. Evans’ mother, Katrina Evans, was found dead with multiple stab wounds, Pasadena Police said. Evans faces 26 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, Santiago said. Evans is being held in lieu of $2 million bail. The Twirly Head Bandit hit banks in Gardena, Norwalk and Pasadena, according to the FBI Los Angeles Field Office. The bandit previous hit banks in West Los Angeles, Culver City and Monrovia, according to Laura Eimiller, spokeswoman for the FBI Los Angeles Field Office.
The robber was given an unknown amount of cash, according to Lt. Tom Loy of the Monrovia Police Department.
The suspect fled the bank and employees locked the doors after he left, Loy said. The robber is a Black male in his mid 20s, 5-foot 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighs 160 to 170 pounds. LOS ANGELES - The FBI is seeking information leading to the arrest of a man who has robbed four banks since May 31. The “Faux Badge Bandit,” so named because he has carried a seven-point badge and shoulder holster during some of the robberies, has hit banks in La Verne, Pasadena, Claremont and Santa Clarita, according to Laura Eimiller of the FBI Los Angeles Field Office. The “Faux Badge Bandit” enters the banks with a bag and issues a demand note for cash. he threatened to shoot the teller’s coworkers if they did not comply, Eimiller said. The “Faux Badge Bandit” is a white man, 6 feet tall, 230 pounds and is 40 to 50 years old. Marlon Montgomery was declared dead at the scene, the result of multiple blunt force trauma, according to the Los Angeles County Department of medical Examiner-Coroner. His city of residence was not provided. The manner of death was not yet determined, but believed to be either accidental or suicide. According to the CHP Incident Management Page, a driver reported seeing what they described as a male in all dark clothing climb over a fence on the westbound side of the Lake Avenue overpass. The male was dangling over the freeway. Subsequent logs reported multiple drivers striking a body in the No. 3 lane after Montgomery fell. Law enforcement agencies across the San Gabriel Valley will be out in force, issuing DUI saturation patrols for the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. POMONA: The Pomona Police DUI Enforcement Team will deploy from Friday, March 16 at 5 p.m. to Saturday, March 17 at 3 a.m. Officers will focus on areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and arrests. Police will also conduct a Know Your Limit operation on both days in Downtown Pomona and other areas of town from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. GLENDORA: DUI saturation patrols will take place Saturday, March 17. Officers will focus their patrols on drivers who exhibit alcohol and/or drug impairment. PASADENA: Pasadena officers will also conduct DUI saturation patrols from 6 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday. MONTEBELLO: Additional officers will be deployed from 7 p.m., March 16 to 3 a.m., March 17. In addition to these patrols, all other police, Sheriff’s stations and the California Highway Patrol will be on heightened alert, looking for DUI drivers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 252 people lost their lives in drunk driving-related crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period from 2011-2015.
