One of the suspects is armed with a knife, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. No further information is available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The suspect who allegedly rammed into the doors of a Montebello JC Penny and assaulted officers during a subsequent chase entered his plea March 12. Tom Rojas, 37, pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of assault upon a peace officer, one felony count each of fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s vehicle while driving recklessly, vandalism causing more than $400 in damage and hit-and-run driving causing property damage, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Public Information Officer Paul Eakins. Police began pursuing him after responding to a burglary call at The Shops Montebello, 1600 Town Center Dr., around 3 a.m. March 9. A vehicle was seen crashing into one of the store fronts, Montebello Police said.
Rojas allegedly fled the scene, but was found later at Paramount and Whittier boulevards in Pico Rivera. Rojas allegedly drove recklessly along surface streets and tried to strike other vehicles and police vehicles on the road, Montebello Police said. The pursuit ended with police gunfire near Dittman Avenue and Indiana Street after a K9 took Rojas down. No officers were injured. Rojas faces a possible maximum sentence of eight years and two months in state prison if convicted as charged, Eakins said. Timogene David Guillen, 25, was arrested on his birthday in Bellflower on Alondra Boulevard west of Eucalyptus Avenue after stopping for officers who pursued him from Diamond Bar, said Public Information Officer Rodrigo Jimenez with the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office. Guillen allegedly refused to stop for the CHP after he was witnessed driving at high speed on the westbound 60 freeway at Grand Avenue around 1:33 a.m. January 3. Guillen, followed by CHP cruisers and a helicopter, sped along freeways behind the wheel of a stolen Nissan Maxima, at times in excess of 130 miles per hour, according to CHP radio traffic. After transitioning to the southbound 605 freeway, Guillen exited onto Alondra Boulevard where he eventually surrendered in Bellflower. “Upon inventory of the Nissan, officers located a large quantity of collectible comic books and determined that both the comic books and the vehicle had been stolen,” Jimenez said. Guillen was booked at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles on suspicion of felony evading, possession of a stolen vehicle, grand theft and receiving stolen property. Two of the suspects suffered dog bites when K9s were sent in after the suspects refused to come out from their hiding spots in the area of Melrose Avenue and Kingsley Drive in East Hollywood December 21. The unidentified suspects are accused of robbing Shant’s Clock and Watch Repair, 8 E. Holly St., in Old Town Pasadena around 4:20 p.m. Officers located the Kia Soul being driven away from the scene and attempted to stop it. The suspects recklessly evaded Pasadena Police and the California Highway Patrol across the 134, 210, 101 and 170 freeways until reaching surface streets in the Hollywood area, only to continue their reckless evading. The driver sometimes used opposing lanes to flee authorities. The suspects exited the Kia Soul and fled on foot through residential yards, setting off a multi-agency search. Four suspects were in custody by 9 p.m. Two hours later, the fifth subject was arrested. Kyanna Patterson, 23, and Brittney Patterson, 21, were arrested after leading Chino Police officers on a pursuit Tuesday. The unidentified victim, an acquaintance of the suspects, reported got into a disagreement with both women, causing them to attack her, police said. Officers were called to a report of a woman in distress and calling for help in a vehicle in a Circle K lot, 12895 Mountain Ave., at 7:22 a.m. Tuesday. Officers located the suspects’ silver Kia Sonata on Benson Avenue, but the suspects refused to stop and sped away. The Sonata crashed into two vehicles at the intersection of Riverside Drive and 10th Street. Officers discovered the 28-year-old victim unconscious in a rear passenger seat, a cord around her neck, Ontario Police said. The victim was hospitalized in stable condition. The women were en route to Indio from Los Angeles when the attack occurred, Ontario Police said. Both suspects were booked on suspicion of attempted murder at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. The pursuit of a black Chrysler car ended after the suspect exited the 210 freeway westbound in Pasadena and sideswiped another driver, but kept fleeing until the suspect car became disabled at Marengo Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard, according to California Highway Patrol radio traffic. The pursuit began in the Inland Empire, possibly from the Victorville area, according to Officer Stephen Brandt of the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center. The driver was wanted for excessive speed and fled CHP Rancho Cucamonga units west on the Interstate 10 freeway into Pomona where the chase continued on surface streets. The driver possibly let two passengers exit and flee the vehicle at Arrow Highway and Mills Avenue in Claremont before continuing. The suspect entered the westbound 210 freeway and fled officers at 115 miles per hour at times, according to CHP radio traffic. It is unclear if the suspects committed a crime before speeding away from the CHP. A call to the CHP Inland Empire Communications Center was redirected to the 9-1-1 emergency call center. The pursuit came into the eastern San Gabriel Valley initially on the westbound 210 freeway in the San Dimas area. The driver has been enjoying light to moderate traffic to the 605 freeway interchange. The pursuit is now in the Hacienda Heights area. Authorities are searching for the suspects who fled the car on foot in Hesperia around 8:40 p.m., according CHP radio traffic. The two men carjacked their victim in the area of Verdugo Road and Broadview Drive. CHP officers from the Altadena office located the carjacked Chrysler at 8:02 p.m. east on the 210 freeway at Lincoln Avenue, according to Officer Alex Rubio of the California Highway Patrol. The driver fled CHP Altadena and Baldwin Park officers at high-speed, sometimes in excess of 100 miles per hour. It is unclear if the fleeing suspects have been apprehended. The suspects allegedly hit the driver of a grey Dodge Ram 2500 during the pursuit, with the collision occurring at the east 210 freeway and the 605 interchange. No one was injured. |
