Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor EAST HOLLYWOOD - All five suspects accused of robbing a Pasadena store and fleeing police in a wild, reckless pursuit were arrested Friday after hiding among East Hollywood homes.
Two of the suspects suffered dog bites when K9s were sent in after the suspects refused to come out from their hiding spots in the area of Melrose Avenue and Kingsley Drive in East Hollywood December 21. The unidentified suspects are accused of robbing Shant’s Clock and Watch Repair, 8 E. Holly St., in Old Town Pasadena around 4:20 p.m. Officers located the Kia Soul being driven away from the scene and attempted to stop it. The suspects recklessly evaded Pasadena Police and the California Highway Patrol across the 134, 210, 101 and 170 freeways until reaching surface streets in the Hollywood area, only to continue their reckless evading. The driver sometimes used opposing lanes to flee authorities. The suspects exited the Kia Soul and fled on foot through residential yards, setting off a multi-agency search. Four suspects were in custody by 9 p.m. Two hours later, the fifth subject was arrested. The man dubbed the “Twirly Head Bandit,” so named due to the design in haircut, robbed banks in West Los Angeles, Culver City and Monrovia, according to Laura Eimiller, spokeswoman for the FBI Los Angeles Field Office. The Monrovia Chase Bank, 102 W. Foothill Blvd. was robbed just after 5:30 p.m. June 28. The robber pretended to be a customer and passed a demand note to the teller for money in various denominations, Eimiller said. The robber wrote the teller to stay calm and not make any sudden moves. The robber was given an unknown amount of cash, according to Lt. Tom Loy of the Monrovia Police Department. The suspect fled the bank and employees locked the doors after he left, Loy said. The robber is a Black male in his mid 20s, 5-foot 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighs 160 to 170 pounds. No suspect vehicle description was available. WHITTIER - A suspect clad in a hoodie and carrying a semi-automatic handgun robbed a Chevron Gas Station April 7.
The robbery occurred at the gas station, 15735 Leffingwell Road, around 10:30 p.m. The suspect threatened the clerk with the handgun, but the clerk picked up a stick or pipe and tried to scare off the robber. The clerk then laid down the improvised weapon and is seen complying with the robber. It is unclear if the suspect fled with any cash or merchandise. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES – A man robbed two Cathay banks in the San Gabriel Valley, hitting a Monterey Park bank as recently as Tuesday. The suspect, dubbed the "Last Minute Bandit" due to him arriving late in the day, also cased a third Cathay Bank Friday, March 23 in Rowland Heights, but the suspect ultimately left, according to Laura Eimiller of the FBI Los Angeles Field Office. The suspect, clad in a brown hat, sunglasses and a long-sleeve collared shirt or light jacket, issued a demand note for cash at Cathay Bank, 17851 Colima Road in Industry. The suspect entered the bank just before 4:40 p.m., according to Lt. Hugo Reynaga of the Industry Sheriff’s Station. The suspect fled with about $2,000, Reynaga said. The suspect would issue a demand note and claim to have a weapon on him. he would even make a motion to indicate he was armed, but no weapon was seen, Eimiller said.

Jesse Alvarez, a 21-year-old Whittier man, was taken into custody March 11 after several tips from the public, aided by a surveillance photo, helped identify him, Whittier Police said. Alvarez is accused of robbing a Shoe City, 12560 Whittier Blvd. Armed with a black handgun and wearing a ski mask, Alvarez allegedly stole shoes from the business. Alvarez is also accused of committing domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon, days after the Shoe City robbery, Whittier Police said. The case against Alvarez was officially filed with Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which includes two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of domestic violence and one count of robbery. Alvarez’ bail is currently set at $1.3 million. Alvarez is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court March 20. |
