The road is open to residents and emergency vehicles only. The road block has been moved to mile marker 32.14, according to Caltrans. An estimated 40-foot high wall of mud and rock fell across the road February 4, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Campers from Coldbrook Campground and Crystal Lake were unable to leave down the roadway, which has been covering the road since a driver called to report the incident at around 10:35 p.m. Monday night, the CHP said. The driver who reported the rock and mud slide was traveling north when he saw a woman waving a flashlight, trying to signal for help. Her vehicle became stuck in the mess as she was driving southbound, the CHP said. TRAFFIC - Sign removal on the eastbound I-10 freeway will force all lanes to be closed for five hours over several nights Caltrans announced.
All eastbound lanes will be closed from Midnight to 5 a.m. January 30, January 31 and February 1 for overhead sign removal from Via Verde Street to the 57 freeway. Drivers will be detoured to Via Verde, according to Caltrans.
An electronic sign will show drivers a detour route to the southbound 57 freeway to reconnect to the eastbound 10, Caltrans said.
Temporary signs will be placed on the median. The work is part of a $195 million project which is slated to add a carpool lane in each direction of the freeway between Citrus Street and the 57 freeway. The California Highway Patrol stated the 30-year-old Covina driver of the Honda Accord that struck and killed 22-year-old Grisol Lupita Ramirez did stop at the scene and spoke with officers. The Accord struck Ramirez after she exited a Honda Civic that spun out on the westbound I-10 freeway near Holt Avenue around 11:25 p.m. The Civic likely spun out of control in the No. 4 lane after encountering rain-slicked roads. Ramirez exited the right front passenger side door and was hit in the No. 1 lane. She died at the scene. Ramon Lopez Jr., 39, died after going into cardiac arrest. He was subdued by drivers who were stopped on the I-10 freeway west of San Gabriel Boulevard Monday -- drivers caught in the traffic jam Lopez apparently caused, according to the California Highway Patrol. According to witnesses, a GMC Safari was seen driving erratically in eastbound lanes west of New Avenue around 11:17 a.m. The driver of the Safari stopped and exited the SUV west of San Gabriel Boulevard when the SUV became disabled after hitting several vehicles, the CHP said. Armed with a tire iron, Lopez jumped on top of a stopped BMW and began destroying the windshield, the CHP said. The BMW driver was uninjured. Lopez’s tirade continued and he allegedly destroyed the left side window of a stopped Toyota Corolla, the CHP said. Lopez then ran full-force into a stopped Ford Explorer, causing damage. Lopez began yelling at the driver and grabbed at the door handles, possibly in an attempt to carjack the driver, the CHP said. A group of stopped drivers then pinned Lopez to the pavement until an ambulance arrived. Lopez went into cardiac arrest. He was transported to an area hospital, according to CHP radio traffic. Lopez was declared dead just before Noon, the CHP said. The driver of the BMW was hospitalized for shock. The SUV was reported stolen out of Huntington Park. Two men took the SUV, but only Lopez was inside during the freeway chaos, according to CHP radio traffic. The whereabouts of the second suspect are unknown. Edwin Contreras Interiano, a Pomona man, died at the scene of the collision, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The fatal crash occurred at 9:28 p.m. November 23, minutes after an occupant of the stopped silver Chevrolet Cruze called authorities and said their son fled the vehicle with the car keys, according to the California Highway Patrol. A white pickup truck may have struck the victim, the CHP said. The victim’s family was reportedly in the vehicle and stopped on the right shoulder for an unknown reason before the victim fled. The victim’s mother was apparently behind the wheel of the Cruze, according to the CHP. Authorities had all lanes shut down at 9:39 p.m. The No. 1 and 2 lanes were opened at 10:07 p.m. and all lanes were cleared by 11:37 p.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - Authorities are piecing together the sequence of events that led the pilot of a fixed-wing plane to make an emergency landing on the 210 freeway Thursday.
No one was injured in the plane or in any vehicles on the westbound 210 freeway after the plane landed east of Mountain Avenue sometime after 3:30 p.m. A mayday call was made before the landing. As of 6:45 p.m., the plane was still in the process of being moved, according to the California Highway Patrol Inland Center. The single-engine, fixed-wing Cessna 182P is registered to G & N Enterprises, LLC in Sparks, Nevada. A Sig Alert affecting the No. 3 and 4 lanes remains in effect for the 210 west east of Mountain Avenue. The aircraft landed in the No. 3 lane of the 210 freeway sometime after 3:30 p.m. The aircraft did not hit any vehicles, according to the CHP Traffic Management Center. A Sig Alert was issued at 3:52 p.m. for the west 210 east of Mountain Avenue for an unknown duration. The vehicle was found about 150 feet over the side of San Gabriel Canyon Road at mile marker 32.82 just after 3 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The victim was unconscious, but complained of pelvic pain after regaining consciousness, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Three medics and a firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service were lowered to the driver to assess injuries and aid in a hoist. The driver was flown to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment. Glendora Mountain Road will be closed from Big Dalton Canyon Road to East Fork Road and Glendora Ridge Road will be closed from Glendora Mountain Road to Mt. Baldy Road until Tuesday, October 16. Chantry Flats, Mt. Wilson Trail and Bailey Canyon will also be closed, according to Sierra Madre officials. A wind advisory is in effect until 3 p.m. Monday, October 15. A red flag warning will remain in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, as winds will reach 25 to 30 miles per hour. Gusts of 45 miles per hour are possible, according to the National Weather Service. The windy conditions will slightly decrease Tuesday. |
