The incident unfolded November 1 at Walmart, 1950 Auto Centre Dr. “The suspect removed a fixed blade knife from his person and made threatening statements towards an employee before leaving the store with stolen merchandise,” according to the Glendora Police Department in a written statement. Daniel Cervantes, a 37-year-old Pasadena man, was found near the Walmart. Officers booked him on suspicion of robbery and carrying a concealed dirk or dagger. Cervantes is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic. He has already made two initial court appearances and pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Cervantes is expected to return to the West Covina Courthouse November 17. The robbery was reported just after 7 a.m. Friday, July 14 in the area of Glendora Mountain Road and big Dalton Canyon Road near Colby Trail. The victim was robbed at knifepoint, according to the Glendora Police Department. A search was conducted with the help of a Pasadena Police helicopter, but the suspect has not yet been located. The suspect is described as a white man who stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and has a blonde/grey beard. He wore a dirty white t-shirt, jean shorts and a black hat. The suspect is potentially a transient, according to the Glendora Police Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA – Two 16-year-old boys were taken to juvenile hall after allegedly stealing a woman’s purse in the Glendora Village Sunday, but Good Samaritans put a stop to it.
The robbery occurred around 1:15 p.m. One of the teens snatched the purse from the woman who was sitting down. The teen fled to a waiting vehicle driven by the other teen, according to the Glendora Police Department. “…several good Samaritans in the area came to the aid of the victim. Together they were able to retrieve the stolen purse and detain the subject and the getaway driver,” according to the Glendora Police Department in a written statement. One of the teens was wanted on a no-bail warrant issued in San Bernardino. “It is unknown why they were in Glendora, but appears that they were specifically looking for easy- to-grab items to steal,” according to the Glendora Police Department in a written statement. A 16-year-old from Upland and a 16-year-old from Colton were both booked on suspicion of robbery. Police accuse Jesus Avina, 19, of driving around, using a knife to threaten his two victims and demand money and cell phone. Avina first threatened a female victim as she rode a bicycle near Yucca Place and Leadora Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Avina drove off and 10 minutes later, he brandished the knife at a man out for a walk near Palm Drive and Estrada Way. Avina allegedly escaped with the demanded property, according to the Glendora Police Department. A license plate number was obtained and detectives determined the suspect vehicle was reported stolen in Covina. Detectives also identified Avina as a suspect, Glendora Police said. “At about 1:30 p.m. Avina was located in Azusa while driving the stolen vehicle. He was arrested and transported the Glendora Police Jail. The weapon used in the robberies was located in Avina’s possession at the time of his arrest,” according to the Glendora Police Department. Avina has been arrested four time since November of 2020 for grand theft auto. He is also on probation for robbery. He was released a little more than two hours from the Covina Police jail under the current “zero-bail” order. He was in Covina Police custody for grand theft auto and allegedly stole the vehicle used in the Glendora robberies after his release, Glendora Police said. Police will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and seek two charges for robbery, one count of stealing a vehicle, possessing metal knuckles and possession of a concealed dagger. The robbery occurred at the Chase Bank, 1905 E. Route 66, January 8. Police responded to the bank at 4:30 p.m., according to Lt. Marty Barrett of the Glendora Police Department. “A note was passed in which a gun was threatened,” according to Laura Eimiller from FBI Media Relations. She noted that no weapon was actually seen. It was not specified if the suspect fled with any money. The suspect is still at-large. The suspect is described as a possibly white, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern man. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A tip from a Glendora resident helped investigators locate and arrest a man wanted in two November robberies, Glendora Police said.
27-year-old Bryan Cornejo of Duarte was tracked down to Ontario December 9 where he was found driving. He refused to stop and led police from Glendora and Ontario on a pursuit until he crashed and ran on foot, Glendora Police said. Cornejo was arrested without further incident. Officers found and seized a replica handgun used in the November 17 and November 25 robberies, according to the Glendora Police Department. In both robberies, Cornejo is accused of approaching lone individuals. He revealed a handgun and demanded property from his victims. Conejo fled with a wallet and sell phone in one robbery, a purse and the second, Glendora Police said. Search warrants were served at two residences and investigators recovered most of the stolen property, Glendora Police said. At the time of his arrest, Cornejo was on formal probation for a robbery committed in 2019, Glendora police said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed three charges against Cornejo. One count of felony identity theft and two counts of second-degree robbery. “Cornejo has a previous conviction for robbery, which is a strike, however, a sentencing enhancement based on that conviction can no longer be alleged during criminal filing under the new County District Attorney charging directives,” Glendora police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A man armed with what is believed to be a semi-automatic handgun is accused of robbing two people in late November. The first robbery occurred November 17 around 5:19 p.m. when a suspect approached the victim walking in a residential area. He brandished a semi-automatic handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet and cell phone, both of which were surrendered, Glendora Police said. Eight days later, a similar suspect approached a victim as she exited her vehicle in a residential area just before 5 p.m. The suspect brandished a handgun and demanded her purse, which the suspect eventually got, Glendora Police said. The suspect is a Hispanic man in his early 20s, stands around 5 feet 8 inches tall and has a thick build. The suspect vehicle is possibly a late 90s red, four-door car; possibly a Toyota Camry featuring peeling paint on the hood and the trunk, tinted front and rear windows, a thin chrome bar on the grille and the license plate begins with the number “7.” The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - Four suspects took off with an estimated $15,000 in cell phones, watches and iPads from the display cases at a T-Mobile store Wednesday. The robbery was reported at the T-Mobile store, 541 S. Grand Ave., at 6:32 p.m. November 6. Four suspects in hooded sweatshirts entered, took the merchandise and pushed an employee as they fled, according to Lt. James DeMond of the Glendora Police Department. As police responded, they attempted to pull a driver over believed to be involved in the robbery. The driver stopped in the 600 block of South Vermont Avenue was not involved, but was eventually arrested on suspicion of DUI, DeMond said.
The employee was uninjured. The suspects wore the hoods over their faces. They were only described to police as possible Hispanic juveniles, DeMond said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A man who stole food items from a 7-Eleven October 24 was caught after fleeing through Oakdale Memorial Park. Police responded to 7-Eleven, 1410 S. Grand Ave., on a reported robbery around 11:30 p.m. The suspect claimed to have a weapon, but no weapon was seen, according to Lt. Marty Barrett of the Glendora Police Department. The suspect fled into the nearby cemetery, 1401 S. Grand Ave., Barrett said. A containment was set up to find the suspect.
With the help of a helicopter, the suspect was seen hopping over a wall onto Barranca Avenue west of the cemetery. The suspect was arrested without incident, Barrett said. No one was injured during the robbery. Avery Guy Shelden, 40, was taken into custody. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles ahead of a scheduled appearance in West Covina Superior Court October 29. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES – Authorities named the 42-year-old man shot and killed by police gunfire after attempting to rob a jewelry store September 6. Vondarrow Dewayne Fisher was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Fisher and one other man are accused of a takeover robbery of Lamas Jewelry, 750 W. Route 66, around 12:15 p.m. September 6. Fisher was located by an officer in the driveway of a nearby mixed-use complex in the 600 block of West Route 66. Fisher reportedly refused to comply with the officer’s commands and was shot.
Fisher was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he died, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. 43-year-old Maria Luisa Valenzuela-Ayala was arrested at 2:09 p.m. at 750 W. Route 66. Valenzuela-Ayala was booked on suspicion of robbery. |
