Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A suspect was arrested and booked on suspicion of assault on an officer after he allegedly backed his SUV aggressively towards a deputy during a traffic stop Tuesday night.
Frank Hernandez, 47, is accused of backing his blue Chevrolet Silverado aggressively during a traffic stop at 13736 Valley Boulevard in Industry. The action forced the deputy to leap out of the way, according to Lt. David Petrocelli of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The incident occurred around 11:37 p.m. “As the deputy approached the vehicle, the suspect suddenly put his vehicle in reverse, rapidly backed up toward the deputy, causing the deputy to jump out of the way to avoid being struck,” Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. The suspect took off with the deputy pursuing west on Valley Boulevard. The pursuit stuck to surface streets at mostly 50 miles per hour, at times reaching 90 into Irwindale where the suspect fled east on Foothill Boulevard. Hernandez suddenly stopped on east Route 66 at Lorraine Avenue, fled the vehicle and disappeared briefly, before walking back to deputies to surrender, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. It is not immediately clear if Hernandez discarded illegal property before surrendering. A motive for fleeing is not immediately clear. Hernandez is being held in lieu of $201,250 bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Rio Hondo Municipal Court in El Monte December 11. |
