DUARTE - A man was arrested September 15 for drug-related offenses after he fled with a group of transients from a brush fire started at the San Gabriel River.

The fire ultimately burned a 50-foot by 50-foot spot in the riverbed near the 15900 block of Foothill Boulevard in the late afternoon, not long after a 12-acre brush fire ignited at nearby Santa Fe Dam that same day.
Firefighters reported about 10 transients fled the scene of the fire.

One man was detained by deputies and he denied sparking the small fire. Methamphetamine, however, was found on him during a search, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station.

Deputies arrested the publicly-unidentified man on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell.
