Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - A man was arrested September 15 for drug-related offenses after he fled with a group of transients from a brush fire started at the San Gabriel River. The fire ultimately burned a 50-foot by 50-foot spot in the riverbed near the 15900 block of Foothill Boulevard in the late afternoon, not long after a 12-acre brush fire ignited at nearby Santa Fe Dam that same day. Firefighters reported about 10 transients fled the scene of the fire.
One man was detained by deputies and he denied sparking the small fire. Methamphetamine, however, was found on him during a search, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Deputies arrested the publicly-unidentified man on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell. The unidentified suspect was identified after the victim, whose purse was taken at knifepoint, provided additional information to detectives, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The robbery occurred August 17 around 4:08 a.m. The victim is the owner of Le Donuts, 1802 Huntington Dr., where the crime occurred the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
“After further investigation, the suspect, who apparently resides with his girlfriend across the street from the donut shop, was positively identified and arrested without incident,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. The suspect burglarized a home in the 800 block of Crestfield Drive between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. The unknown suspect took a Coca-Cola from the refrigerator. The homeowner returned to find the refrigerator door open and the soda sitting on a counter, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. At the time of the report was made, it was unclear if anything was stolen, deputies said. |
