Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE – Additional patrols have been added to all Duarte neighborhoods after a man reportedly dressed as an Amazon delivery worker stole a package from a home, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced June 21.
A suspect in an Amazon delivery shirt was caught on surveillance video “appearing to impersonate an Amazon delivery driver,” according to the City of Duarte. The incident was recorded June 16 in the 2500 block of Elda Street at 3:30 p.m. ”Witnesses reported that the man was sitting in his vehicle waiting on the street for the Amazon delivery driver, and after the delivery came, he followed to steal the package,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. The suspect drove in a yellow Kia EV6. Deputies ask residents to be vigilant, but to refrain from confronting strangers. Report suspicious persons, vehicles and to write down a license plate number if it is available. Report possible crimes in progress to the Sheriff’s Temple Station at 626-448-9861. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - A cargo container was broken into at Duarte High School recently, with an estimated loss of $12,000 in electrical equipment and instruments, authorities said. The burglary was reported to deputies November 15. Someone discovered a hole was cut into the cargo container at the high school, 1565 Central Ave. The burglary is believed to have taken place between 2 p.m. October 5 and 3 p.m. November 15, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. At the time of the November 25 report, no surveillance footage was found. There is no suspect description. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - Three suspects in hooded sweatshirts took 11 cell phones in a daytime robbery February 4. The grand theft occurred at T-Mobile, 1088 Huntington Dr., at 1 p.m. The suspects’ faces were partially covered when they entered and began taking the property once the security cords were cut, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The suspects fled into a tan four-door Mercedes-Benz E320. The loss was more than $9,850, deputies said. The suspects also caused $2,500 damage to a display rack. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - A woman distracted a convenience store employee while a man stole hundred of dollars worth of lottery tickets January 20. The petty theft occurred around 1:45 a.m. at the convenience store, 1802 Huntington Dr. The man and woman entered the store and lingered for 30 minutes. The woman and distracted the clerk by calling him to the rear of the store to clean up a beer bottle she broke on the floor, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station.
The man capitalized on the distracted clerk by taking $900 in lottery tickets from behind the front counter, deputies said. Both the man and woman fled the 7-Eleven together and ran out of view, deputies said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - A woman on a bicycle was caught on camera stealing a Grocery Outlet shopper’s purse right out of a cart July 19 and the phone ended up in a nearby riverbed. The crime occurred in the store parking lot, 1322 Huntington Dr. The victim unloaded her groceries and returned the cart, not realizing she left her purse inside. After returning to the store to retrieve the purse, it was gone, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies said.
“The victim pinged her phone approximately 20 minutes after the theft, and the GPS showed its location somewhere in the riverbed off Encanto Parkway,” deputies said. The investigation is ongoing. |
