Fidel Padilla, 32, was shot and killed in the driveway at 1018 Kellwil Way in Duarte October 16, 2023, around 1:40 a.m. A vehicle was caught on surveillance camera speeding from the location. Investigators do not yet have a motive or a suspect description in the stabbing, which they believe occurred in the 2500 block of Millbrae Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station were notified around 8:45 p.m. of a stabbing victim admitted to a local hospital February 4. The preliminary investigation led deputies to an address on Millbrae Avenue, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. The stabbing victim, only described as an adult Hispanic man, died at the hospital. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - Details are still few as the investigation into a fatal stabbing aboard a Gold Line train continues Tuesday. A man was detained in connection to the stabbing, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau, but Homicide detectives were unavailable to say if the suspect has been arrested. The victim, only described as a man, died at the scene from a wound to the upper torso. A weapon was also recovered, deputies said. The victim has yet to be identified, pending notification of next of kin, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau, which patrols Los Angeles County Metro lines and Metrolink, received a 9-1-1 transfer call from Irwindale Police at 11:30 a.m. regarding an attack on either the platform or westbound train in Irwindale, according to Deputy Ramon Montenegro.
The train continued westbound and stopped at the Duarte/City of Hope Station, where the suspect and victim were met by deputies. A passenger at the Duarte Station, awaiting an eastbound train, described a chaotic scene: riders fleeing from the passenger car where the victim lay lifeless, deputies taking the suspect into custody, a crime scene in progress. “People ran off when deputies got there,” according to the passenger, who wished to not be named. “When fire got there, they started CPR for 15 min. Then stopped. The deputies put up crime tape so I left,” the passenger said in a Facebook message to SGV CityWatch. Delays continue due to the investigation at the Duarte/City of Hope Station. Trains run through without stopping, but Los Angeles Metro is providing connecting bus service to affected passengers. The victim succumbed to the injuries sustained. The victim and a suspect made their way to the Duarte/City of Hope Station where the victim died after medical attempts to revive the victim failed. A suspect is detained, according to Ramon Montenegro of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. The attack occurred some time around 11:30 a.m. The 9-1-1 call came in from Irwindale Police to the Sheriff’s Department. Deputies and Los Angeles County Firefighters arrived to the train as it stopped at the Duarte Station and met the suspect and victim, Montenegro said. Sheriff’s Homicide investigators are en route to the dual crime scenes in Duarte and Irwindale. One of the passengers awaiting an eastbound train in Duarte described a chaotic scene. “[I] Was waiting for the train, to go to citrus, the E/B train arrived people ran off when deputies got there the ones on the train pointed out the suspect. They arrested him,” said the passenger who wished to not be identified. “When fire got there, they started CPR for 15 min. Then stopped. The deputies put up crime tape so I left,” The passenger said. Gold Line trains are skipping the Duarte/City of Hope Station, according to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority. |
