CityWatch Editor DUARTE - A shirtless man was arrested September 16, after he allegedly attempted to assault an Amazon delivery driver by swinging a metal pole at him. The aggravated assault took place in the 1400 block of Buena Vista Street around 11:30 a.m. The driver was at the location delivering a package when he noticed the suspect approach him in an aggressive manner while swinging a pole, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “The suspect proceeded to run towards the victim while yelling profanities. The suspect got within a few feet of the victim while swinging the pole at him in an attempt to hit him. The victim, fearing for his safety, began to run away,” according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station in a written statement. Deputies located and detained the suspect. CityWatch Editor DUARTE - The person of interest detained after a man died from an altercation in Duarte Wednesday was released pending further investigation, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The death stemmed from a neighbor intervening in a fight between a man and woman who detectives said were in a prior dating relationship. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Temple Station were called to a house in a 2500 block of Maynard Drive around 6:49 p.m. June 26 to a domestic assault call. During the intervention, the man grabbed a tire iron from a nearby vehicle. The neighbor and the man got into a struggle. The man was subdued by the neighbor and taken to the ground. Deputies arrived and found the man unconscious. He was taken to a hospital where he later died, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Everyone involved in this incident know each other. The incident is being handled as a death investigation, the Sheriff’s Department said. The attack occurred around 3:06 p.m. at the store located at 1600 Mountain Ave. The suspect, described only as female white, jumped into the stall occupied by the victim and began strangling her with a USB cable, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “The victim, fearing for her life, began to scream for help. As the victim struggled and screamed for help, the suspect placed a sock in her mouth to prevent her from screaming,” according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station in a written statement. A man nearby heard the screams for help and entered the restroom. He pulled the victim free from the suspect. Deputies arrived and located the suspect still inside the bathroom and took her into custody. The suspect and passenger met at a party in Pomona around 5 p.m. that same day. The suspect drove the passenger to Duarte and without notice, the suspect placed a knife to the victim’s neck, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The crash happened in the 2200 block of Huntington Drive. “The suspect drove while holding a knife to the victim’s neck and then the suspect punched the victim several times, causing him to collide with another vehicle,” according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station in a written statement. It is unclear if the suspect was ever identified to law enforcement and arrested. The suspect fled the crash and was last seen at a nearby gas station. The assault occurred in the 1200 block of Huntington Drive Between 2:45 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect is described as a black man who stands 6 feet tall, weighs 200 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes. Clothing description was not provided. The victims condition was also not provided. Residents who live within a half mile of the 1200 block of Huntington Drive are asked to check security cameras for any video capturing suspicious activity around the time of the assault, according to the Los Angeles County sheriffs department. The shooting took place inside a room at the Days Inn by Wyndham, 1533 E. Huntington Dr., October 9. The male allegedly began acting bizarre and the victim tried to calm him down by hugging him, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “The suspect began to push the victim off of him, when the victim heard a gunshot and realized she had been shot in the arm. The victim attempted the run out of the room, when the suspect prevented her from leaving,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station in a written statement. After several attempts, the victim was able to escape. The suspect also fled, but was found and arrested. His name was not publicly disclosed. The shooting occurred September 22 in the 1200 block of Galen Street. The driver was seated in his vehicle when another vehicle, described as a late 90s Hyundai Sonata with tinted windows, stopped alongside him, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “The victim heard the sound of a gunshot and immediately realized he had been shot. The suspect vehicle driven by unknown persons fled the area,” according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station in a written statement. Shotgun pellet holes peppered the victim’s vehicle and evidence was recovered at the scene. Both victim and suspect began arguing at the convenience store, 2705 Huntington Drive. An employee told both victim and suspect to leave, at which point the victim told the suspect “I’ll meet you outside,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “Once both parties were outside, the victim approached the other party, when he produced a knife and was stabbed in the abdomen,” according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station in a written statement. Surveillance video apparently caught the incident. It is unclear if any arrests were made. DUARTE - Detectives are investigating an argument that led two men to pull handguns on an adversary in a Duarte neighborhood April 15. The weapon brandishing unfolded near Starhaven Street at Buena Vista Street at 6:30 p.m. The victim told deputies he got into an argument with his neighbor about the neighbor’s speeding on the street. During the argument, two of the neighbor’s friends approach the victim and brandished black handguns at him, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “The victim ran to his home, and the suspects and his neighbor entered a gold-colored BMW and drove northbound Buena Vista Street and out of view,” Deputies said in a written statement.
