Few details are available right now, but investigators do not suspect foul play after the body was discovered near the park, 1902 Fulton Ave., according to Lt. Paul Villalobos of the Monterey Park Police Department. The victim has already been identified as 34-year-old Michael McCartney. He is listed as being transient, according to Public Information Officer Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The cause of death has been deferred pending additional investigation. McCartney’s body was found on a hillside, according to coroner records. The crash that occurred around 12:48 a.m. February 10 in the 1600 block of Corporate Center Drive also injured the female passenger of a reportedly stolen Honda CRV. The driver hit a tree after somehow losing control of the vehicle, according to law enforcement at the scene. LAPD officers attempted to stop the driver of the stolen CRV around 12:30 a.m., but he refused to yield. The driver died at the scene. The crash occurred around 6:38 p.m. at Crest Vista Drive and Windover Way. The teen, identified as 17-year-old Ernesto Manzano Jr., was riding downhill at high speed against traffic. He reportedly collided into a northbound vehicle, according to the Monterey Park Police Department. Manzano died at the scene. “The driver of the vehicle stopped after the collision and is cooperating with the investigation. Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor at this time,” according to the Monterey Park Police Department in a written statement.

The unidentified suspect surrendered to Monterey Park Police officers outside a home in the 1700 block of Alisar Avenue. Officers found the suspect with his hands up. He was detained without incident, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The suspect, only identified as a Hispanic man in his 30s, called 9-1-1 and told dispatchers he killed someone. “When officers entered the residence, they found a female Hispanic in her 60’s with multiple stab wounds to the upper torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Two knives were recovered at the scene. The woman was pronounced dead in the 1700 block of Alisar Avenue May 5. Monterey Park firefighters were called to the scene at 10:47 a.m., according to Monterey Park Fire Department radio traffic. The crash was reported around 2:54 p.m. February 9. One person died at the scene. An injured person had to be extricated from one of the vehicles and was hospitalized. Their condition is not publicly known. Monterey Park Police have not answered numerous calls seeking additional information. Monterey Park officers responding to a report of a loud music disturbance in the 1100 block of College View Drive January 31 found the victim after another person within the residence told them a dead person was there, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The incident occurred around 5:47 a.m. “The Officers entered the location and observed someone (victim) laying unresponsive on the floor. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - Suspected catalytic converter thieves fled Monterey Park Police in two different vehicles, setting off a police pursuit and two crashes, with one suspect dying at the scene. Police attempted to contact two men opening vehicle doors parked at a closed business January 5 in the 700 block of Monterey Pass Road around 5:22 p.m. A gold Nissan fled the scene and rammed a patrol car to exit the property, Monterey Park Police said. The Nissan driver got away. Officers soon began pursuing a black Mercedes that also fled the scene, Monterey Park Police said. The Mercedes fled north on Monterey Pass Road, lost control, struck a curb and crashed. Both occupants in the Mercedes were hospitalized for their injuries. While detaining the two suspects, an overturned Nissan was discovered across the street after it hit a concrete wall. The driver was partially ejected and died at the scene, Monterey Park Police said.
The arrested suspects were identified as 25-year-old Huntington Park resident Diego Ramirez and 31-year-old Wendy Mireles of Pico Rivera. Ramirez and Mireles were both booked on suspicion of attempted grand theft. Ramirez was additionally booked on suspicion of felony evading, vandalism and trespassing. Both suspects are scheduled for an appearance in Alhambra Superior Court Tuesday, January 7. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - Police announced the arrest of a driver accused of fleeing the scene after hitting and killing a teen skateboarder November 18. Cristina Navarro, a 63-year-old Montebello resident, was arrested after her white minivan was located Nov. 22, according to the Monterey Park Police Department. 14-year-old Joshua Madrid was gravely wounded as he crossed Atlantic Boulevard at Newmark Avenue around 9:20 p.m. November 18. Investigators believe Madrid was outside a marked crosswalk and crossed against a red light when he was struck, Monterey Park police said.
Madrid was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. Navarro was booked on suspicion of hit and run and vehicular manslaughter.
