The suspect, who authorities have yet to describe, has still not been arrested. The suspect’s whereabouts are still not known. It is also not yet known if this was a targeted shooting, or if this was indeed a hate crime. ****** MONTEREY PARK - Nine people were shot and killed late Saturday night during a Lunar New Year celebration in Monterey Park, Sheriff’s homicide investigators said. Few details are available at this hour. The incident was reported to authorities around 10:22 p.m. Saturday, January 21. The shooting reportedly took place inside of a dance studio in the 100 block of West Garvey Avenue. It is unclear if the shooter is still at-large. Apparently, witnesses from the scene described that the shooter was carrying some form of a semixautomatic weapon and was carrying additional ammunition with him. The woman was pronounced dead in the 1700 block of Alisar Avenue May 5. Monterey Park firefighters were called to the scene at 10:47 a.m., according to Monterey Park Fire Department radio traffic. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - Two suspects may be hiding in a restaurant bathroom after a chase terminated near North Atlantic Boulevard and West Hellman Avenue. The chase ended in the underground parking structure. At least two suspects may be hiding and are cornered by CHP officers, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The suspects may be hiding in the restroom of the Tasty Garden, 500 N. Atlantic Blvd. There may be as many as two outstanding suspects in addition to the two holed up in the bathroom. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK – A suspicious item forced precautionary evacuations of some stores at Altantic Square Monday. The Sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail responded to the 2000 block of South Atlantic Boulevard around 11:30 a.m. January 21. The suspicious item was found behind a store, but Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau did not know which store. The unknown item didn't belong to anyone and it was fixed to a wall, according to Lt. Eric Kim of the Monterey Park Police Department. Ralph's was one of the evacuated stores, Kim said. The package was examined and deemed safe. |
