Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - A pedestrian was found unresponsive and was later declared dead on Atlantic Boulevard near the 60 freeway overpass early Saturday morning.
First responders were dispatched at 1:36 a.m. and found the victim down in the middle of northbound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard. The victim appeared to have been struck by a vehicle, according to the Monterey Park Police Department. It is unclear if a possible suspect vehicle, or driver, has been identified. The shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. in the 300 block of Newmark Avenue. The wounded man was taken to an area hospital where he was later declared dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Deputies have yet to explain the reason behind the fatal shooting, But CBS 2 news reported that according to initial information, the man got into an altercation with authorities at a fire station in the 300 block of Newmark Avenue. The woman was pronounced dead in the 1700 block of Alisar Avenue May 5. Monterey Park firefighters were called to the scene at 10:47 a.m., according to Monterey Park Fire Department radio traffic. MONTEREY PARK - A Southern California Edison employee recorded a video of a flaming garbage truck that rolled down a Monterey Park Street after its brakes failed Monday.
Firefighters were dousing the flaming truck near South Abajo Drive and West Verde Vista Drive around 10:38 a.m. March 18 when the truck slowly started rolling forward. The fire likely compromised the brakes and the truck rolled down the road until came to rest in a residential yard.
Firefighters and SoCal Edison workers ran for cover as the truck began rolling. The truck’s content of yard waste spilled on the road after it stopped. No injuries were reported. |
