Michael Moreno was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Moreno was found with another man badly wounded after being struck by gunfire in the 200 block of South Acacia Street around 6:20 p.m. December 23. Moreno was declared dead at the scene. Moreno's body was discovered in the street near a truck. The second man was found suffering at least three gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby trauma center for treatment. His condition has not been disclosed. Moreno and the other man were found injured outside of a truck on the east side of Acacia Street near Pioneer Park. The relationship between the two men, as well as a motive for the shooting, remains unknown or undisclosed. A shooting occurred in an alley in the 300 block of West 1st Street Wednesday, December 18. A man taking out the trash was fired upon by at least one man inside a dark-colored 2011 to 2014 Toyota Corolla. In addition to the strangulation, 17-year-old Kelsey Meza suffered blunt head trauma, the coroner said. The mother and daughter were found slain in their apartment in the 800 block of West Colorado Boulevard around 1:30 p.m. Monrovia officers made the discovery after responding to a call of an assault that occurred there, according to Lt. Derrick Alfred of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. An unknown caller phoned Alhambra Police about the assault. The call was then transferred to the Monrovia Police Department, which responded and found an open window. Officers entered through the window and found the females dead. Nimrod Perez Guerrero, 33, is being sought by detectives as the possible murder suspect and is considered armed and dangerous. Bernard Ortiz, 46, from Azusa, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Ortiz was found by El Monte officers responding to a call of gunfire in the 11100 block of Bonwood Avenue around 10:25 p.m. Saturday. Officers found Ortiz wounded in an alleyway with a gunshot to the upper torso, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Ortiz died at the scene. Karina Alcaraz was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. She died of blunt force trauma to the head. Her death has been ruled a homicide. According to the news site Mexico City Today, Alcaraz, originally from the Costa Grande region, was last heard from November 10. She was last known to be in Los Angeles. U.S. Forest Service workers clearing brush discovered her body 50 feet over Angeles Crest Highway at mile marker 31.1. The body was deemed a “long-term DOA” by Los Angeles County firefighters who spoke with Sheriff’s deputies at the scene around 10:30 a.m. November 17. The condition of the body made it difficult for detectives to determine gender, let alone the manner of death, according to Deputy Armando Viera Jr. of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. A gofundme page set up in Alcaraz’s name stated she was the mother of two sons who are now in her brother’s care. The family is attempting to send the body back to Mexico for a proper burial. Johanna Lissette Mejia Gayton was identified by Sarah Ardalani, public information officer for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. A local resident collecting cans reportedly discovered Gayton’s dead, bloody body, which was dumped in a culvert along a mountain road. The resident called 9-1-1 around 12:15 p.m. Saturday. Deputies from the San Dimas Station arrived to East Fork Road at mile marker 1.25 and declared Gayton dead at the scene, according to Deputy Armando Viera Jr. of the Los Angeles a County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Gayton’s body was in a culvert adjacent to a turnout and apparently suffered blunt force trauma, Viera said. No suspect information is available. San Dimas Sheriff’s Station deputies were called to the scene along East Fork Road at mile marker 1.25 around 1:15 p.m. Los Angeles County Firefighters were dispatched to the scene 10 minus later. One patient was found DOA, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Firefighters were initially told of a bloody woman and were dispatched to a medical emergency call. A female adult was found dead at the scene, according to Deputy Armando Viera Jr. with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. No other information is available. The condition of the body makes it difficult for detectives to determine gender, let alone the manner of death, according to Deputy Armando Viera Jr. of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “Detectives have learned U.S. Forestry employees were cleaning debris near the location when they located the decedent. Based on the condition of the remains, this incident is being investigated as a homicide,” Viera Jr. said.

Jose Alcarez, 32, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Alcarez was pronounced dead at the scene after deputies arrived to the intersection of Del Valle Avenue and Fairgrove Avenue, according to Deputy Tony Moore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Homicide detectives have yet to release a suspect description or a possible motive in the shooting. Sandra Marie Wicksted, 61, faced one count of murder and four counts of attempted murder after she struck and killed a cyclist and attempted to hit at least four others on a Claremont road November 3, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Wicksted’s criminal complaint alleges she used her vehicle as a dangerous and deadly weapon and that her crimes were willful, deliberate and premeditated.
The collision occurred at Radcliffe Drive and Mills Avenue at 11:35 a.m. November 3. Killed in the crash was 54-year-old cyclist Leslie Pray. During the crash, Wicksted’s green 1996 Mercury Tracer station wagon slammed into a wall and became heavily damaged. Wicksted’s bail was set at $6.1 million. She faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison if convicted as charged, Santiago said. Ryan Michael Venti, 33, was taken into custody at 7:55 p.m. November 5. He is being held in lieu of $2 million bail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Deputies responded with a helicopter to the residence, 3643 Crooked Creek Dr., in Diamond Bar around 7:50 p.m. after receiving a call from a neighbor. Venti was seen in a white hoodie in the backyard of the home where parents John Venti and Linda Venti died. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic, the resident was speaking to Venti over a fence and kept him talking until deputies arrived. After repeatedly stating Ryan Venti was merely wanted for questioning, he was later sought for the killing of his parents and the arson of their home. A dog also perished in the fire. Ryan Venti was taken into custody without incident, according to Deputy Kim Alexander of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “From the condition of the suspect, it appears that he has been hiding in the surrounding hills and brush in an attempt to avoid capture,” Alexander said. A motive for the killings has yet to be determined. Venti is scheduled to appear in Pomona Municipal Court Wednesday, November 7. |
