Ryan Venti was arrested without incident around 8 p.m. by Walnut/Diamond Bar deputies, according to Deputy Charles Moore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Deputy Moore was awaiting more details of the arrest. According to Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s radio traffic, a neighbor called deputies around 7:50 p.m. to report Venti was seen in the backyard of the burned home in the 3600 block of Crooked Creek Drive. The neighbor kept Venti talking as deputies were responding. While Venti was not considered a suspect, according to Sheriff’s homicide detectives, responding deputies referred to Venti as a “187 suspect.” 187 is the California penal code for murder No further information is available. The SUV with an unknown number of adults and children struck the center diver just before 1:30 p.m. At least one occupant was partially ejected, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Ford Explorer rolled multiple times and came to rest near the divider. The children in the SUV were being pulled out of the overturned vehicle, according to California Patrol Traffic Logs. One victim received a laceration to the head, another received an arm injury. A vehicle struck a brick wall and ruptured the natural gas line in the 21300 block of Cottonwood Lane around 9:28 a.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Art Marrujo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters are on scene and the gas company has been called to shut off the gas line. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are helping with evacuations and are diverting traffic in the area. One patient was taken to an area trauma center for treatment, according to Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A Sig Alert has been issued for the HOV, No. 1, 2 and possibly 3 lanes of traffic for an unknown duration. Los Angeles County Firefighters have arrived on scene and are taking over patient care. A red sedan reportedly struck a motorcycle just after 8 p.m. The motorcycle and rider hit the pavement, while the sedan continued on and hit the center divider. The rider went down in the No. 1 lane, according to CHP traffic logs. The grass fire was reported just after 11:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Ballena Drive. The fire was spotted burning between homes. Firefighters had the blaze about 50 percent contained shortly after responding on scene, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. No structures were threatened. |
