Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - The Monterey Park Police Traffic Unit will conduct a DUI/driver license checkpoint beginning tonight at 6 p.m.
The checkpoint, which will be held at an undisclosed area of town, will conclude at 2 a.m. Saturday, June 9. DUI checkpoint locations are chosen, based on collision statistics and the frequency of DUI arrests, Monterey Park Police said. Authorities tout the deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints when they are well-publicized and deployed with high-visibility enforcement. “Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized proactive DUI operations are conducted routinely,” Monterey Park Police said in a written statement. Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Monterey Park Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. |
