Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR - The driver behind an older red freightliner fled the scene of a crash that took the life of a motorcyclist Tuesday afternoon.
The red freightliner reportedly fled the scene of the crash after initiating the collision on the eastbound 60 freeway west of Grand Avenue, which occurred just after 10 p.m. The freightliner was seen by eyewitnesses exiting the freeway at Grand Avenue towards Valley Boulevard. The rider, Daniel Guttierrez, 39, from Riverside died at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, according to the California Highway Patrol. The red freightliner was east on the 60 freeway and merged onto the No. 1 lane to the northbound 57 freeway. The freightliner struck a red 2009 Toyota Corolla. The Corolla was sent into a white freightliner, which was in the No 2 lane of the north 57 freeway. The Corolla’s driver, a 25-year-old Pomona woman, accelerated to get out from between the two freightliners. The Corolla caught the front bumper of the red freightliner and veered across traffic lanes, striking the center divider, the CHP said. The Corolla bounced back into traffic lanes, striking Gutierrez and his motorcycle in the No. 1 lane, the CHP said. Arriving CHP officers found Gutierrez inside the detached rear bumper of the Toyota. A search for the red freightliner turned up nothing. Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to call CHP officer Resa Rombouts at 626-338-1164. |
