Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - At least one gunman and about four others fled the scene of a shooting Monday night, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said.
A parked, unoccupied 2016 Toyota Corolla was struck by gunfire after a group of five men in black hoodies surrounded it and began kicking it, according to Lt. James Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. “Three rounds were fired, it [the vehicle] was hit twice,” Long told SGV CityWatch. The shooting was reported at 10:05 p.m. on Aileron Avenue south of Hayland Street December 23 — roughly 30 minutes after the triple shooting in West Covina that claimed one life. It was unclear if the vehicle belonged to someone the suspects intended to target. The suspects fled in a grey SUV north on Aileron. The five suspects were only described as Hispanic men in their 20s, Long said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - At least one suspect may be tied to two shootings that unfolded early December 22, a Sheriffs lieutenant said.
Gang violence is a likely reason for the shootings that began when two Hispanic men in their 20s were struck by gunfire around 1:34 a.m. in the 16200 block of Abbey Street. One man was struck in the leg, a second was shot in the chest, according to Lt. James Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Two suspects in what was described as a black Nissan Altima shouted out the name of a local gang. The driver reportedly opened fire on the men. Long initially said the man shot in the chest was in very critical condition, possibly death imminent, but Lt. Torres said in a follow-up interview that the condition was upgraded to stable. The man shot in the leg was also in stable condition. Two others escaped injury after the driver of what was described as a dark-colored Camry opened fire outside a home on Benwick Street near South Indian Summer Avenue at 1:52 a.m. The car drove past the intended victims standing in the front yard, circled back and loud music began playing from the vehicle. The victims next heard gunfire breaking through a nearby tree, Long said. “One of the victims ran into the street and he heard three more shots fired at him, but no one got hit,” Long told SGV CityWatch. Occupants of the Benwick home have gang ties, Long said. The Suspected Shooter Remains At-Large. CLICK TO READ MORE |
