CLAREMONT - Residents escaped injury Monday after an explosion and fire tore through a single-story home Monday afternoon.
The explosion and fire occurred in or near a home in the 200 block of West 12th Street around 2:53 p.m. Arriving firefighters immediately reported smoke and fire showing from the single-family dwelling, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Other homes in a one-block radius also sustained damage.
Fire investigators are on scene to determine the cause of the explosion, said Art Marrujo, dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Firefighters knocked down the flames at 3:20 p.m.
It is unclear if anyone lives in the home and how many people may have been displaced. A second home occupies the property. It was not clear if the second home sustained damage, Marrujo said.
