CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - A man accused of shooting three people during a robbery May 17 and his accomplice are facing a slew of charges. Michael Abeyta, 27, was officially charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of second degree robbery, three counts of criminal intent to terrorize and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. Each count of attempted murder, criminal intent to terrorize and second degree robbery carry a special allegation of use of a firearm. Abeyta is accused of shooting three robbery victims at Super King Market, 436 Auto Center Dr. around 5:11 p.m. All three victims were treated at the scene and later hospitalized and were last listed in stable condition, according to the Claremont Police Department. Witnesses and surveillance video helped officers identify the suspect. During a search, clothing and a firearm believed to be used by the suspect were located hidden under a vehicle at a nearby business. A helicopter found the suspect walking in the 100 block of Meredith Avenue and he was arrested without further incident, according to the Claremont Police Department. The accomplice, 37-year-old Amanda Soto, was identified during the follow-up investigation and arrested. She was charged with three counts of second degree robbery, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. Abeyta is being held without bail. Soto was released on her own recognizance. John Martinez, 45, was identified early during the homicide investigation and was tracked to West Covina where he was arrested July 18, according to the Claremont Police Department. The unidentified victim, only described as a male, was found gravely wounded in the parking lot of the Claremont Lodge, 736 S. Indian Hill Blvd. Officer were called to investigate reports of gunfire at 12:10 a.m., according to the Claremont Police Department. “Officers and paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department performed life-saving measures, however, the male succumbed to his injuries. Officers responded at 8:20 a.m. after being called to a report of shots fired at a home in the 1800 block of Salem Court April 7. One victim was found laying on the street. He was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center and was pronounced dead, according to the Claremont Police Department. Firefighters, dispatched at 8:23 a.m., found a victim in traumatic full arrest, according to Inspector Henry Narvaez, public information officer with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. One other person was found with injuries not related to gunfire, Narvaez told SGV CityWatch. “A 71-year-old male suspect was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered,” according to the Claremont Police Department. Police responded to the Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd., just before 7 a.m. August 3 to a shooting call and found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside one of the rooms, according to the Claremont Police Department. “The shooting victim was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, where they underwent surgery and are expected to survive. The motivation that led to the shooting is unknown,” the Claremont Police Department said in a written statement.
The suspect possibly fled the motel in a vehicle. The suspect was described as a Hispanic man, 25 years old, stands 6 feet tall and wore a baseball hat. Officers responded to Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd., at 1:11 a.m. July 23 to investigate a shooting report and found the victim near one of the rooms. He was shot once in the abdomen, according to the Claremont Police Department. The victim was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center and underwent surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery, Claremont Police said. Police seek three men who fled the location in a vehicle.
All three suspects are Hispanic men. One suspect is 6 feet tall and wore an arm or wrist brace on one of his arms. A second suspect was only described as tall with a thin build and he had a shaved head. A third suspect was described as short, heavyset and a shaved head. Detectives identified a suspect in the March shooting, which took place in the 100 block of Meredith Street. The investigation led to Montclair, where three days of surveillance on 26-year-old suspect Isaias Reyes-Moreno led to his arrest at Kingsley Avenue and Monte Vista Avenue April, Claremont Police said.
Reyes-Moreno was found in possession of a 9-millimeter handgun detectives believe was used in the shooting. Two search warrants served in Montclair and La Verne yielded addition evidence, Claremont Police said. Reyes-Moreno is being held in lieu of $2 million bail. He had a scheduled appearance in court April 3. The victim was behind the wheel of a white SUV found crashed on Indian Boulevard at San Jose Avenue just After 5 p.m. October 3. The SUV, found with bullet holes marring the exterior, rear-ended another vehicle, Claremont Police said.
The 33-year-old driver who was stabbed was hospitalized. His condition is not immediately known. The stabbing occurred at an unknown location prior to the collision. It is unclear if a suspect has been identified. The shooting occurred on the eastbound 210 freeway west of Baseline Road around 10:42 p.m. March 23. The driver was uninjured, according to Officer Moises Marroquin of the California Highway Patrol. The driver’s vehicle was hit by un unspecified number of bullets and became disabled, according to CHP radio traffic.
The driver’s BMW 430i was towed away as evidence in the investigation. A suspect vehicle description was unavailable. |
