Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - A would-be burglar is getting coal in his stocking this Christmas after trying to scoot down a chimney to burglarize a home Saturday.
Police were called to a home in the 700 block of San Simon just after 10 a.m. after someone heard screams for help coming from in the residence’s chimney, according to the Claremont Police Department. The homeowner was not present. A neighbor heard a man screaming for help and called 9-1-1, according to Lt. Eric Huizar of the Claremont Police Department. Los Angeles County Firefighters arrived and freed 24-year-old Michael Arciniega, who was trapped in the chimney since midnight. Arciniega was treated for exhaustion and dehydration. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and was booked on suspicion of residential burglary. The man is considered a burglary suspect and was rescued by firefighters at 794 Via San Simon, according to Cheryl Sims, dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters were called to the home at 10:09 a.m. The man was trapped about seven to eight feet down the chimney, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. The suspect is being taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center to be medically cleared for Claremont Police to arrest him. A Claremont Police supervisor was unavailable to provide information. |
