Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - A woman is recovering after being groped, punched and strangled Monday morning.
A Claremont Police officer on patrol saw the suspect, Dion Davis Knight, 20, as he was already attacking the woman. Knight fled the attack as the officer tried to apprehend him. A search resulted in the hiding suspect’s capture. Claremont Police revealed Knight was arrested Saturday night for a misdemeanor violation, upon which he posted $250 bail and was released a mere two hours before the attack. The woman was sitting on a bus bench near Indian Hill Boulevard near Oak Park Drive just north of the I-10 freeway around 4:50 a.m. when Knight reportedly approached her and began touching her, Claremont Police said. Knight then reportedly punched the woman in the face repeatedly and knocked her down. He then strangled the woman and told her that he was the Grim Reaper and that he was going to kill her, Claremont Police said. The original Claremont officer on scene tended the beaten woman while additional officers searched for Knight. Knight jumped a fence to a nearby business to escape capture. Knight was finally caught and positively identified by the woman, Claremont Police said. Knight is being held in lieu of $2 million bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles. |
