Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT – Police are searching for burglary victims from Claremont, Hacienda Heights, Pico Rivera and Upland after two suspects were caught with stolen property. Two suspects were detained during a traffic stop at Noon March 30 at Foothill Boulevard and Mills Avenue. An officer saw a large amount of stolen property and burglary tools inside the stopped Hyundai Sonata, according to the Claremont Police Department. The suspects, a 37-year-old El Monte resident, and a 31-year-old Pomona resident were arrested. The Hyundai Sonata was impounded and searched. Theft victims were contacted. The property stolen from the mentioned cities was taken as far back as March 16. Officers also had property stolen from a home near Padua Avenue and Mt. Baldy Road.
Among the charges include possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. Both suspects were cited and released for the misdemeanor crimes, Claremont Police said. “Theft from unlocked vehicles and auto burglaries from locked vehicles have increased during the COVID-19 Stay-at-Home Order,” Claremont Police said in a written statement. “Please help the Police Department during this time by removing valuable property from your vehicles and LOCKING the doors. The Police Officers appreciate your efforts in preventing crime.” Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - A suspect has been detained after abandoning a vehicle and fleeing on foot from an Upland Police traffic stop, Claremont and Upland Police said. A search for a suspect wearing a green and grey shirt, grey pants and green hat was being conducted in the area of East 6th Street and North College Avenue. School officials at the Claremont Colleges urged students to stay inside during the search, according to The Student Life newspaper. Upland Police attempted a traffic stop on the suspect who was driving a vehicle without license plates. The suspect fled the stop recklessly and at high speed, prompting officers to decide against a pursuit, according to Upland Police.
The suspect vehicle was found abandoned on the Claremont/Upland border. No other details are available. |
