Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - A man and woman were found in possession of stolen mail and packages from at least six cities, police said. A vigilant resident called officers around 2:35 p.m. April 7 after noticing a black Honda Civic trailing a FedEx truck. The resident witnessed someone from the Civic exit and take a package from a home in the 300 block of Rockford Drive, according to the Claremont Police Department. The Civic left the neighborhood toward Mills Avenue. During a police search of the area, Claremont Police were called about mail theft in the 4400 block of Amundsen Branch. The witness to the mail theft followed the suspects until officers located the Civic and stopped the driver on Monte Vista Avenue at Baseline Road. Both suspects were detained.
“Further investigation revealed that the driver and passenger had been involved in package and mail theft. The officers located at least 15 victims of theft, including four victims from Claremont and additional victims from Redlands, Rialto, Fontana, Riverside, and Moreno Valley,” Claremont Police said in a written statement. The driver, 25-year-oldDaniel Vavau, was also driving under the influence of a controlled substance, in addition to possessing a controlled substance and burglary tools. Passenger Lyric Mena, 24, was in possession of a methamphetamine pipe. Both suspects were jailed and later released on citations, Claremont Police said. |
