The suspects were spotted by a Claremont Police officer after they drove away from the blue collection mailboxes at the Claremont Post Office, 140 N. Harvard Ave. at 3 a.m. December 24. The suspects were stopped after they drove from the post office and during a consent search of their vehicle, officers additionally found checks, a long thin strip of carpet with an adhesive backing and sticky rat/mouse traps were found, Claremont Police said. Arrested were Lennox resident Amida Urrutia, 44, and Erik Gomez, 34, from Los Angeles were arrested and booked on suspicion of identity theft, possession of stolen property, conspiracy, and burglary tools, Claremont Police said. “If you placed your mail in the blue mailboxes in the east alley of the Post Office after 4pm on December 23, and you believe you are a victim, contact the Police Department at (909) 399-5411,” Claremont Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - A Pomona man was jailed December 15 after police observed him driving suspiciously through a commercial complex. Around 10:15 p.m. December 15, an officer saw 54-year-old Michael Swett driving through the commercial complex in the 400 block of West Arrow Highway. Swett parked in the Pepper Tree Shopping Center where another officer in an undercover vehicle watched the suspect, according to the Claremont Police Department. Swett was detained by officers after one hour of surveillance and was found with burglary tools, a loaded .45 caliber handgun with a loaded extended capacity magazine, methamphetamine, and a methamphetamine smoking pipe, Claremont Police said.
Swett was booked on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm, possession of methamphetamine and possession of burglary tools. He was later released with a citation for the misdemeanor charges, Claremont Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - A known sex registrant and transient was jailed Thursday, accused of making inappropriate sexual comments to a juvenile. Javier Sanchez, 26, was arrested within minutes of a warrant being issued for his arrest in connection with the child annoying case that occurred in November, according to the Claremont Police Department. A girl was approached by a man near Indian Hill Boulevard and First Street November 27. “The victim stated that the male adult made inappropriate sexual comments to her. The suspect had left the area prior to the officer’s arrival,” Claremont Police said. Investigators believed they knew the suspect’s identity based on the victim’s description, thinking Sanchez was the man who approached the girl. Sanchez frequents the Claremont Village area. Sanchez was held in lieu of $100,000 bail and was scheduled for a December 6 appearance in Pomona Superior Court.
Sanchez was previously arrested November 21 -- six days before the child annoying incident and accused of lewd acts at the Claremont Helen Renwick Library. He pleaded guilty in the library case, was sentenced to 90 days in jail, but was released after one day due to overcrowding in the county jail, Claremont Police said. Investigators released Sanchez’s booking photo in hopes of encouraging more victims to step forward. Anyone with information on Sanchez is urged to call Claremont Police at 909-399-5411. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - Two males were jailed December 1 after a resident witnessed two strange people taking property from a motorhome.
The incident occurred on West Point Drive near Mills Avenue. After taking property from the motor home, the suspects left the area in a Gold Toyota Corolla, according to the Claremont Police Department. A responding officer stopped the suspect vehicle and searched the Corolla. Property from the motorhome was discovered, Claremont Police said. Officers discovered the motorhome had been ransacked. In addition to the stolen property found inside the vehicle, officers found methamphetamine and needles in the suspects’ possession. |
