John Dehaseth attempted to flee through the rear door of his home in the 1500 block of Mural Drive August 27 as detectives from the Claremont Police Department, aided by the Claremont police drug detection canine, closed in on the suspect at his home. He was detained and placed into custody, the Claremont Police Department said. The arrest came as a result from months of investigation after a victim came forward March 23. Officers responded to the 1500 block of mural Drive. A 38-year-old woman told police she was drugged and sexually assaulted by the suspect inside his nearby home, Claremont Police said. “During months of continuous investigation, evidence was located, which corroborated the victim’s statement,” Claremont Police said in a written statement. After the arrest Thursday, police confiscated evidence related to the assault inside the suspects home. The assault was reported near the Metrolink station parking lot, 100 E. First St., August 15 before 7 p.m. A witness reported a naked man running from the location, blood running down his face, according to the Claremont Police Department. The naked man was chased a man swinging a skateboard, the latter had attempted to steal the other’s property by striking him in the head multiple times. “Both subjects were detained and LA County Fire responded to provide medical aid. The victim had a deep laceration on his head due to being struck with the skateboard by the suspect,” the Claremont Police Department said. The naked man was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. The unidentified suspect was booked on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. The suspect was also listed as being on active probation for the controlling charge of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, Claremont Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT – A man in possession of an unregistered gun and appearing to be under the influence of a controlled substance was jailed August 12 after threatening two off-duty officers, Claremont Police said. The incident occurred on Foothill Boulevard when they noticed a maroon Nissan being driven erratically behind them, the driver honking his horn at them, Claremont Police said. The suspect stopped alongside the officers at a red light as they waited to turn north onto Indian Hill Boulevard, began yelling and pointed a handgun in the officers’ direction, his finger on the trigger, Claremont Police said. “Traffic cleared and the off-duty officers were able to drive away from the suspect, but the suspect continued to follow them,” Claremont Police said in a written statement.
Claremont officers were called and the suspect was detained during a high-risk traffic stop on Bonita Avenue west of Indian Hill Boulevard. A 9mm glock “ghost gun” was discovered along with methamphetamine and a meth pipe, Claremont Police said. The 21-year-old suspect was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed, being under the influence of a controlled substance while armed and brandishing a firearm. The man approached a tow truck driver who was towing a vehicle away from Indian Hill Boulevard south of Arrow Highway and pointed his finger at him as if he wanted to shoot him, according to the Claremont Police Department. The man allegedly threaten to shoot the tow truck driver and any Claremont police officer who arrived to the scene. He also attempted to make his way into the tow truck, but was pulled away by the driver, Claremont police said. The driver ran away from the truck after the man reached for his waistband and claimed he was going to wait in the bushes to shoot arriving Claremont officers. A search conducted by Claremont officers, Pomona police officers, a K9 and a helicopter yielded no suspect. It is not publicly clear what connection the man has to the two people who were arrested during the traffic stop on Indian Hill Boulevard. An alleged DUI a driver was arrested at 10 p.m. Friday. The passenger was also arrested after officers discovered the passenger had an outstanding federal probation warrant for human smuggling, Claremont police said. The man who threaten the tow truck driver and police is described as a light skin Hispanic or white man who stands 5 feet 10 inches tall, has short dark hair and wore a light blue shirt and blue jean pants. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - Police are searching for the trigger man in a shooting from Monday night. Police responded to the Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd., just before 7 a.m. August 3 to a shooting call and found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside one of the rooms, according to the Claremont Police Department. “The shooting victim was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, where they underwent surgery and are expected to survive. The motivation that led to the shooting is unknown,” the Claremont Police Department said in a written statement.
The suspect possibly fled the motel in a vehicle. The suspect was described as a Hispanic man, 25 years old, stands 6 feet tall and wore a baseball hat.
