Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT – A man in possession of an unregistered gun and appearing to be under the influence of a controlled substance was jailed August 12 after threatening two off-duty officers, Claremont Police said. The incident occurred on Foothill Boulevard when they noticed a maroon Nissan being driven erratically behind them, the driver honking his horn at them, Claremont Police said. The suspect stopped alongside the officers at a red light as they waited to turn north onto Indian Hill Boulevard, began yelling and pointed a handgun in the officers’ direction, his finger on the trigger, Claremont Police said. “Traffic cleared and the off-duty officers were able to drive away from the suspect, but the suspect continued to follow them,” Claremont Police said in a written statement.
Claremont officers were called and the suspect was detained during a high-risk traffic stop on Bonita Avenue west of Indian Hill Boulevard. A 9mm glock “ghost gun” was discovered along with methamphetamine and a meth pipe, Claremont Police said. The 21-year-old suspect was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed, being under the influence of a controlled substance while armed and brandishing a firearm. |
