The fatal crash occurred at 9:28 p.m. November 23, minutes after an occupant of the stopped silver Chevrolet Cruze called authorities and said their son fled the vehicle with the car keys, according to the California Highway Patrol. A white pickup truck may have struck the victim, the CHP said. The victim’s family was reportedly in the vehicle and stopped on the right shoulder for an unknown reason before the victim fled. The victim’s mother was apparently behind the wheel of the Cruze, according to the CHP. Authorities had all lanes shut down at 9:39 p.m. The No. 1 and 2 lanes were opened at 10:07 p.m. and all lanes were cleared by 11:37 p.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR - Deputies have arrested the 33-year-old son wanted for questioning after his parents died in a house fire, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said.
Ryan Venti was arrested without incident around 8 p.m. by Walnut/Diamond Bar deputies, according to Deputy Charles Moore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Deputy Moore was awaiting more details of the arrest. According to Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s radio traffic, a neighbor called deputies around 7:50 p.m. to report Venti was seen in the backyard of the burned home in the 3600 block of Crooked Creek Drive. The neighbor kept Venti talking as deputies were responding. While Venti was not considered a suspect, according to Sheriff’s homicide detectives, responding deputies referred to Venti as a “187 suspect.” 187 is the California penal code for murder No further information is available. Homicide detectives are looking for Ryan Venti, son of 66-year-old Linda Venti and 75-year-old John Venti. The couple were found deceased in the downstairs bedroom of their two-story house early Friday. The fire at the home in the 3600 block of Crooked Creek Drive, also killed a dog. Ryan Venti is not a suspect in the suspicious fire, Sheriff’s homicide detectives said. “At this time it appears that the fire may have been intentionally set. Due to the suspicious nature of the fire and the fact that Ryan Venti appears to [be] missing and has not returned to the house, Detectives are actively looking for him, so that they can speak with him in an attempt at determining what occurred at the residence,” according to Deputy Joanna Warren of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Flames were observed coming from the second story of a two-story home after firefighters were dispatched at 4:45 a.m. to the 3600 block of Crooked Creek Drive, according to Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters discovered and confirmed two people perished in the flames, Pittman said. The victims were only described as a man and woman, according to Grace medrano of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Information Bureau. Firefighters knocked down the flames at 5:18 a.m. A dog was also discovered dead, according to Lt. Alicia Malone of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The collision occurred between three vehicles on the northbound 57 freeway transition road to the eastbound 60 freeway just before 12:30 a.m. One person has died at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The north 57 transition road to the east 60 remains closed, as well as the No. 3 and 4 lanes of the east 60 freeway to the south 57, the CHP said. Two people in the speeding vehicle were killed after it hit the apartment unit in the 23600 block of Golden Springs Drive around 11:40 p.m., according to Lt. Avola of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. There was one person inside the apartment unit who apparently was uninjured, Avola said. One of the four total patients was hospitalized,while a second refused medical help, according to Dispatch Supervisor Jeremy Stafford of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The vehicle crashed through brush and some trees before hitting the apartment, Avola said. It is unclear if alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving played a factor. Javier Jose Velasquez Grimaldo, 24, of Rowland Heights, was found lifeless on Brea Canyon Road near the southbound 57 freeway around 4:20 a.m. August 27. Grimaldo was southbound on the 57 freeway in a 2004 Mazda 3 when, for unknown reasons, he veered left, struck the center divider and rolled his vehicle, which came to a rest on the right shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol. Grimaldo exited his vehicle and allegedly tried to force his way into a parked big rig on the right shoulder, the CHP said. The driver of the big rig, an Apple Valley man, fled in fear of his life. The rig, which was still running, began moving with Grimaldo clinging to it. He then either jumped, or fell from the big rig and onto Brea Canyon Road, the CHP said. An autopsy has yet to be performed. The CHP is trying to determine if the body is connected to a collision that occurred around the same time. A vehicle reportedly struck the divider and sped across lanes before rolling down an embankment. The body was discovered around 4:10 a.m., according to Officer Christian Cracraft of the California Highway Patrol. Los Angeles County Firefighters were called to an unknown medical call at the location at 4:20 a.m. Firefighters were told of a body in lanes of traffic, according to Art Marrujo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. |
