Homicide detectives are looking for Ryan Venti, son of 66-year-old Linda Venti and 75-year-old John Venti. The couple were found deceased in the downstairs bedroom of their two-story house early Friday. The fire at the home in the 3600 block of Crooked Creek Drive, also killed a dog. Ryan Venti is not a suspect in the suspicious fire, Sheriff’s homicide detectives said. “At this time it appears that the fire may have been intentionally set. Due to the suspicious nature of the fire and the fact that Ryan Venti appears to [be] missing and has not returned to the house, Detectives are actively looking for him, so that they can speak with him in an attempt at determining what occurred at the residence,” according to Deputy Joanna Warren of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Flames were observed coming from the second story of a two-story home after firefighters were dispatched at 4:45 a.m. to the 3600 block of Crooked Creek Drive, according to Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters discovered and confirmed two people perished in the flames, Pittman said. The victims were only described as a man and woman, according to Grace medrano of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Information Bureau. Firefighters knocked down the flames at 5:18 a.m. A dog was also discovered dead, according to Lt. Alicia Malone of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The SUV with an unknown number of adults and children struck the center diver just before 1:30 p.m. At least one occupant was partially ejected, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Ford Explorer rolled multiple times and came to rest near the divider. The children in the SUV were being pulled out of the overturned vehicle, according to California Patrol Traffic Logs. One victim received a laceration to the head, another received an arm injury. Two people in the speeding vehicle were killed after it hit the apartment unit in the 23600 block of Golden Springs Drive around 11:40 p.m., according to Lt. Avola of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. There was one person inside the apartment unit who apparently was uninjured, Avola said. One of the four total patients was hospitalized,while a second refused medical help, according to Dispatch Supervisor Jeremy Stafford of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The vehicle crashed through brush and some trees before hitting the apartment, Avola said. It is unclear if alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving played a factor. The CHP is trying to determine if the body is connected to a collision that occurred around the same time. A vehicle reportedly struck the divider and sped across lanes before rolling down an embankment. The body was discovered around 4:10 a.m., according to Officer Christian Cracraft of the California Highway Patrol. Los Angeles County Firefighters were called to an unknown medical call at the location at 4:20 a.m. Firefighters were told of a body in lanes of traffic, according to Art Marrujo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A vehicle struck a brick wall and ruptured the natural gas line in the 21300 block of Cottonwood Lane around 9:28 a.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Art Marrujo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters are on scene and the gas company has been called to shut off the gas line. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are helping with evacuations and are diverting traffic in the area. A Sig Alert has been issued for the HOV, No. 1, 2 and possibly 3 lanes of traffic for an unknown duration. Los Angeles County Firefighters have arrived on scene and are taking over patient care. A red sedan reportedly struck a motorcycle just after 8 p.m. The motorcycle and rider hit the pavement, while the sedan continued on and hit the center divider. The rider went down in the No. 1 lane, according to CHP traffic logs. One firefighters received an unspecified injury during the response to the 100-foot by 100-foot grass fire near Grand Avenue, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire was reported at 9:28 p.m. and was knocked down at 9:41 p.m. Initial reports indicated that the firefighter suffered a possible broken leg, but Rangel could not confirm the type of injury, only describing it as minor. The firefighters was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The grass fire was reported just after 11:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Ballena Drive. The fire was spotted burning between homes. Firefighters had the blaze about 50 percent contained shortly after responding on scene, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. No structures were threatened. A car fire spread to the brush, but firefighters had established a perimeter around the fire and had flames knocked down by around 1:40 p.m. The No. 4 and 5 lanes of the northbound 57 freeway are block until about 4 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said. DIAMOND BAR - A half-acre brush fire is burning along the northbound 57 freeway at Brea Canyon Road. The brush fire started from a burning BMW on the right shoulder of the freeway around 1:11 p.m. Los Angeles County Firefighters have a full brush fire response initiated, including three helicopters. Flames are moving northbound. Only one engine is on scene and that engine has run out of water, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. |
