Deputies arrived to a home in the 1900 block of Huntington Drive just after 6:30 p.m. and found the naked, bloody man. The man was destroying personal property by throwing it out the window and he received numerous lacerations from broken glass, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “After further investigation, it was determined the male was under the influence of a controlled substance,” deputies said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - An employee had her purse stolen by a man armed with a knife as she was about to open up her workplace August 17. The robbery occurred at LE Donuts, 1802 E. Huntington Dr., at 4 a.m. As the employee was opening up, a man approached her, brandished a knife and demanded her purse.
“The victim fearing for her life, gave the suspect her purse,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The suspect fled south on Highland Avenue and ran into an apartment complex, 1235 Highland Ave. The suspect was not located. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - A woman accused her ex-husband of brandishing a gun at her during a confrontation outside a convenience store August 4. The incident occurred outside 7-Eleven, 1430 Mountain Ave. The woman was followed to the parking lot by her ex-husband after he threatened to kill her if she took his children from him, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station.
The suspect allegedly threatened his ex-wife a second time, but while pointing a hand gun at her, deputies said. The suspect fled the scene when the ex-wife called 9-1-1. The investigation is ongoing. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - A vault explosion has forced a large portion of Mountain Avenue to be closed to traffic Saturday. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Temple Station and the Monrovia Police Department are redirecting traffic. Mountain Avenue is closed from Evergreen Street to East Duarte Road. Firefighters were dispatched to 1600 S. Mountain Ave., at 8:45 p.m. to a vault explosion. SoCal Edison is on scene, according to Dispatch Supervisor Miguel Ornelas of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Originally, 2,923 customers were without power in Duarte, Bradbury and Monrovia. Power was partially restored at 9:34 p.m., according to SoCal Edison Spokeswoman Mary Ann Milbourn. 1,088 customers remain the the dark. It was unclear how many other streets might be blocked to traffic. Deputies report receiving multiple calls of explosions nearby, including as far as City of Hope. An estimated time for repair is unknown, Milbourn said. Milbourn advised customers to never use candles during a power outage and instead use flashlights. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - Deputies arrested one suspect after he and an armed accomplice took beer from a 7-Eleven July 19. The suspects walked into 7-Eleven, 1430 Mountain Ave., around 3:40 a.m. One suspect flashed a handgun from his waistband. The clerk immediately called 9-1-1, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station.
The suspects took two cases of beer. The clerk, fearing for his life, told the suspects to take the beer and not hurt him. “One of the suspect’s was detained and arrested by responding deputies, the other was not located. No gun was recovered,” deputies said. No suspect description was given. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - A woman on a bicycle was caught on camera stealing a Grocery Outlet shopper’s purse right out of a cart July 19 and the phone ended up in a nearby riverbed. The crime occurred in the store parking lot, 1322 Huntington Dr. The victim unloaded her groceries and returned the cart, not realizing she left her purse inside. After returning to the store to retrieve the purse, it was gone, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies said.
“The victim pinged her phone approximately 20 minutes after the theft, and the GPS showed its location somewhere in the riverbed off Encanto Parkway,” deputies said. The investigation is ongoing. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - A suspect possibly 16 to 17 years old attacked a 13-year-old as his friends watched on at a Duarte park June 20. The suspect punched the victim and pointed a switchblade in his face after the victim and his 13-year-old friends refused to buy marijuana, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The incident unfolded at Lena Valenzuela Park, 2120 Mountain Ave. The 13-year-olds were seated at some benches when approached by the suspect. After refusing the marijuana offer, the suspect asked one teen if he “banged.” He was punched by the suspect after stating he did not, deputies said. “The suspect ... pulled a switchblade out and pointed it at the victim’s face. The suspect asked the victim’s friends if they wanted to make $3,000 and kill the victim,” deputies said in a written statement.
The teens refused. The suspect told the victim he was lucky and fled on a bicycle. The victim reportedly did not sustain any injuries. The investigation is ongoing. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - An Azusa man was arrested June 2, suspected of being under the influence of drugs and carrying a meth pipe after being found walking in lanes of traffic. Deputies responded to the 1000 block of Chimes Avenue June 2 to reports of a man in the middle of the street obstructing traffic. Deputies noticed after speaking with him that he displayed signs of being under the influence of drugs, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “When asked for his identification, he pulled out a glass pipe used for ingesting narcotics out of his pocket instead of his I.D.,” deputies said.
The unidentified suspect was booked on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia and additionally booked on possessing methamphetamine and being under the influence of a controlled substance after he was found with meth, deputies said. Deputies responded to Galen Street and Ivory Drive around 5 p.m. to a gunshot victim. The homeless man claimed the rear passenger of a grey Acura fired two to three rounds as the car pulled up, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The man was struck in the elbow and transported to an area hospital.

The bear was seen around 12:30 p.m. walking on the street in the area of Royal Oaks Drive and Encanto Parkway, according to Sgt. Kearney of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station.
