The burglaries occurred from about March 24 to March 29. Deputies noted that the burglaries occurred as a result of personal property being left out in plain view. Two burglaries were reported between Wednesday, March 24 to Thursday, March 25 in the 1300 block of Royal Oaks Drive. In both cases the front driver-side windows to the sedans were smashed. Only one vehicle had property taken, though, deputies said. A burglary was reported in the 2200 block of Huntington Drive Monday, March 25 between 4:15 a.n 5 a.m. Snow chains were taken after a rear passenger window to a Cadillac Escalade was smashed. A burglary was reported in the 1300 block of Huntington Drive at the 99 Cents Only Store March 26 at 8 a.m. A backpack was taken after a rear passenger window was smashed to a car.
A burglary was reported between Thursday, March 28 and Friday, March 28 after a lock was removed from a Chevrolet Silverado truck. Sunglasses and more than $4,000 in plumbing tools were taken. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE – Firefighters and deputies are investigating an envelope containing a “suspicious substance” at a City of Hope Facility. The envelope was discovered at the City of Hope FLASH building, 2240 Buena Vista St., around 2:31 p.m. The envelope containing the unknown substance was discovered in the mail room at the one-story building, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. 100 employees have been evacuated. No injuries or exposure to the substance has been reported. The building is the Facilities, Logistics and Support Hub for City of Hope Duarte. No other information is available. Deputies responded to a call of a woman down near a vehicle at Mountain Avenue and Shrode Avenue around 11:25 a.m. January 5. A handgun was recovered from the scene, according to Sgt. Summers of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Initial information indicated the woman was possibly bleeding from the head. There were no other reported victims, Summers said. The woman’s updated condition was not available.

The shooting occurred in the 2000 block of South Broderick Avenue around 10:25 p.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Both victims were taken to an area trauma center for treatment, according to Los Angeles County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Miguel Ornelas. No one else was injured in the shooting. While the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station watch commander did not have information on the shooting, a white, older-model, full-size pickup truck, possibly a Ford, was seen driving slowly northbound through the neighborhood, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Several loud pops were heard after a resident reportedly witnessed the truck moving north on Broderick. The white truck had tinted windows. No other information is available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE - Three people who came into contact with a white substance were uninjured at City of Hope Friday after the substance was deemed non-hazardous.
The substance, which has yet to be identified, was rendered safe by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Hazmat Detail, according to Deputy Morgan Arteaga of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The substance was somehow received by City of Hope, 1500 Duarte Rd. Deputies were first called to the scene at 2:40 p.m. Los Angeles County Firefighters were dispatched four minutes later. It was not disclosed what building was affected, but Sheriff’s vehicles and fire trucks were stationed just west of the Mickey and Alice Kaplan Clinical Research Building. The substance was isolated to one room in the affected building, while operations at the rest of the campus were unaffected, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The rest of City of Hope seemed unaware of what transpired. The only indication something was amiss were two deputy patrol vehicles with flashing lights stationed near entrances along Duarte Road and the booming arrival of the Sheriff’s Hazmat Mobile Laboratory. Authorities on scene gave the “all-clear” at 6:43 p.m., Arteaga said. The three people who came into contact with the substance were treated and released at the scene, according to Sgt. Summers of the Sheriff’s Temple Station. Detectives at the Sheriff’s Temple Station will investigate the source of the package, Summers said. Three people were exposed to the substance. No hazardous materials were found on the patients. Hazmat technicians with the Los Angeles County Fire Department are on scene, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The package is isolated to one room with no impact to hospital operations. The package was received by City of Hope staff around 2:40 p.m., according to Deputy Morgan Arteaga of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Deputies with the Temple Sheriff’s Station are on scene with firefighters. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Hazmat Detail is en route, Arteaga said. The collision occurred around 5:24 p.m. at Las Lomas Road and Hacienda Drive. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene along with a helicopter, but the arriving copter was cancelled after the pedestrian was pronounced dead, according to Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The driver remained at the scene of the collision, according to Lt Frank Ruiz of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Ruiz had limited information and was unsure if distracted or DUI driving was a cause. It was unclear if the pedestrian was jaywalking or in a marked crosswalk. The shooting occurred in the 1600 block of Buena Vista Street just before Noon. The suspect is still outstanding and a description was not available, according to Lt. Robert Hahnlein of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The man was shot once. “I’m not sure if [the shooting] was at his front door or through the front door. I’m not sure if it was a gang activity, or not, but I think the individual went up to the front door,” Hahnlein said. An updated condition for the victim is not available. The grand theft was reported at Sushi Fire, 1723 Huntington Dr., between the hours of 11 p.m. September 1 and 10 a.m. September 2. Approximately $2,000 was taken, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The money was placed behind the counter after closing time with only employees still present, deputies said. Management realized the security cameras were disconnected when trying to check the footage. The investigation is ongoing. Isaiah Jacob Ramirez, 21, was spotted near the Duarte High School baseball field in the 1500 block of Bloomdale Street. Due to his proximity to children in the area, Ramirez was detained, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. After investigating, deputies found no evidence Ramirez was exposing himself, but did see signs he was under the influence of meth, deputies said. Ramirez was taken into custody. |
