CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - A shooting took a man’s life Monday afternoon. The man was shot in the 500 block of Leverett Avenue around 5:16 p.m. March 17. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced deceased, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Investigators have released little else regarding what led up to the shooting. CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - An alleged DUI driver survived a violent crash that killed three people Tuesday. The collision occurred in the intersection of North Azusa Avenue and East Temple Avenue around 10:43 p.m. January 14. The alleged DUI driver, 24-year-old Yasmin Flores Magana, was southbound on Azusa Avenue in a 2023 Jeep Wrangler at a high rate of speed. She allegedly ran a red light and broadsided a westbound 2018 Nissan Versa occupied by three people, according to the California Highway Patrol. Both vehicles spun in a southwest direction. The Nissan struck a metal pole. The Jeep overturned, according to the CHP. All three fatalities were men in their early 20s. Two have been identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner: 23-year-old Carlos Cardona and 21-year-old Jossue de Leon Villegas. CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - A woman was shot in a residential area late Wednesday and later died, homicide investigators said. The shooting took place in the 900 block of North Fickwirth Avenue around 11:43 p.m. October 16. The woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It is not publicly clear if detectives have identified a suspect or a motive. CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - A 16-year-old boy is reportedly recovering from being stabbed Friday night. The teen fled to 7-Eleven, 16020 Main St., July 26. First responders were called just after 9 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch records. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department radio traffic, the teen was reportedly “bleeding out” inside the store. The teen was stabbed elsewhere and ran to the convenience store, but Sgt. Becerra of the Sheriff’s Industry Station did not immediately know where the stabbing actually occurred. Becerra did say the teen is in stable condition. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Operation Safe Streets bureau are investigating a potential gang tie to this stabbing. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - A reported misfire injured three pyrotechnicians at a pre-Fourth of July celebration. One pyrotechnician received serious injuries. Two others received minor injuries, according to a statement released by the city of La Puente. The misfire occurred during the fireworks portion of the city’s Fortunato Jimenez Fireworks Show July 3. Firefighters were sent to the show at La Puente Park, 501 N. Glendora Ave., just before 9:30 p.m. “Our hearts are heavy as we share news about the La Puente’s Fortunate Jimenez Fireworks Show. One dedicated pyrotechnic technician was seriously injured due to a misfire and explosion. Two other technicians suffered minor injuries. We ask for your thoughts and support for their families during this challenging time,” according to the statement released by the City of La Puente. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - A burglary suspect in a Houston Astros hat fled a business February 9 empty handed after slicing a hole through the roof.
The suspect was caught on surveillance video around 3 a.m. in the 15000 block of Amar Road. After slithering into the business, he failed to open a coin change machine even while using a handheld saw, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The suspect escaped out the same hole. He is described as Latino, 20 to 30 years old and has a thin build. In addition to the Houston Astors hat, the suspect wore a hooded sweatshirt and has neck tattoos. Anyone who can identify the suspect is urged to call the Sheriff’s Industry Station at 626-330-3322. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - A man on an illegal mini bike remains hospitalized after t-boning another vehicle Friday night.
The mini bike rider was eastbound on Temple Avenue and crashed into a vehicle that was making a left turn from westbound Temple to southbound Stimson Avenue, according to Lt. Geary of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The driver of the vehicle the rider crashed into remained at the scene. This reporter observed video of the crash scene. First responders performed CPR on the rider until he was transported to a hospital. The intersection remained closed for hours during a collision investigation. The shooting occurred at Temple Avenue and League Avenue around 10:50 p.m. Friday, February 2. The vehicle that fled the location eastbound was described as an older-model four-door Honda. Only one suspect described is a male Hispanic, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s crime broadcast. The extent of injuries to the victim are not immediately known. Deputies initially believe this shooting is not gang-related. LA PUENTE - Crisis negotiators are attempting to get a man barricaded inside a vehicle to peacefully surrender Thursday morning. The incident apparently began around 9:45 a.m. in the area of Fairgrove Avenue and Sunset Street. The Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau is working with crisis negotiators to bring the situation to a peaceful end, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. A supervisor with the Sheriff’s Industry Station was not immediately available to provide details on why the suspect is barricaded. |
