CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The name of the employee of a Mexican restaurant who died while at work has been officially identified. Condolences continue to pour in for 58-year-old Jose Fernandez Torres. He died from hypertensive cardiovascular disease and severe cardiomegaly, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. Fernandez died at Taco Del Rio, 445 S. Azusa Ave. First responders were called to the scene around 4:49 p.m. April 1. Within a day of his passing, news of Fernandez’s death spread on social media: “My prayers to the family and to his coworkers. He was an amazing man and we loved his food and the whole crew,” said Facebook user Jim Karras. “Jose passed where he was happiest 🙏 God Bless His Soul,” said Facebook user Jennifer Sanchez. “May he rest in peace. I knew him since 2002, he was always very attentive and loved by many in the neighborhood, whether at work or on the job he always greeted and asked how you were,” said Facebook user Geras Cas. CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - A 57-year-old employee died Wednesday after suffering an apparent medical emergency. The publicly-unidentified employee died at Taco Del Rio, 445 S. Azusa Ave. First responders were called to the scene around 4:49 p.m. April 1. The employee died at the scene, according to Sgt. Munshi of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. CityWatch Editor REGION - A woman was arrested the day of her release and rebooked for same crime she was initially jailed for. Monalisa Stoian, 45, was first arrested March 3 by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station detectives. She is accused of being part of a burglary crew that swindled an older person of a gold chain. Stoian was released March 5 after no accusatory pleading was filed and her arrest was considered a detention only, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The exact reason for Stoian’s release were not provided. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Metro Detail located Stoian and re-arrested her. She was booked at the Industry Station on suspicion of theft of an elder/ dependent, according to Los Angeles County booking records. It is not immediately clear if Stoian was rearrested for the March 2 crime, or if she possibly stole from a new victim. One of Stoian’s other two accomplices, 24-year-old Antratida Barbu, posted bond and was released March 6. Constantin Ionut, 25, remains in custody, scheduled for a court appearance March 9. CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - Two women and one man were arrested March 3, accused of swindling a woman of a gold necklace. The grand theft took place in the 500 block of Mayland Avenue March 2. Three suspects in a black Ford Explorer drove up to an older man who was standing outside his home. The man was asked directions to a local church and one of the suspects exited, approached the man, placed a fake gold necklace on him while simultaneously removing his real necklace, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. All three suspects were booked on suspicion of theft from an elder. Barbu and Stoain are both being held in the Century Regional Facility in Los Angeles. Constantin is being held in the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles. Constantin is placed on a hold, related to a warrant from the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office. All three suspects are scheduled for an appearance in Pomona Superior Court Thursday March 5. The suspects occupied a black 2017 Ford Explorer with license plate ED73E54. CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - A driver and his two passengers fled a gas station after a shooting Saturday left the two passengers wounded, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The shooting occurred between the occupants of two cars, one of them being a BMW, at the Sinclair Gas station, 13758 Amar Rd. around 2 p.m. Saturday, November 8. Some sort of argument, or confrontation occurred between the two drivers. The driver of the BMW then opened fire and drove off northbound on Puente Road, according to Sgt. Lefevre of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The BMW returned and gunfire was exchanged. It appears initially that one or both of the passengers were injured during the initial shooting, Lefevre told SGV CityWatch. The driver with the injured passengers, then fled the gas station and drove to Kaiser Baldwin Park where are the passengers are being treated. Lefevre did not have a status on the level of injuries. CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - An alleged DUI driver survived a violent crash that killed three people Tuesday. The collision occurred in the intersection of North Azusa Avenue and East Temple Avenue around 10:43 p.m. January 14. The alleged DUI driver, 24-year-old Yasmin Flores Magana, was southbound on Azusa Avenue in a 2023 Jeep Wrangler at a high rate of speed. She allegedly ran a red light and broadsided a westbound 2018 Nissan Versa occupied by three people, according to the California Highway Patrol. Both vehicles spun in a southwest direction. The Nissan struck a metal pole. The Jeep overturned, according to the CHP. All three fatalities were men in their early 20s. Two have been identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner: 23-year-old Carlos Cardona and 21-year-old Jossue de Leon Villegas. The shooting took place in the 900 block of North Fickwirth Avenue around 11:43 p.m. October 16. The woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It is not publicly clear if detectives have identified a suspect or a motive. CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - A 16-year-old boy is reportedly recovering from being stabbed Friday night. The teen fled to 7-Eleven, 16020 Main St., July 26. First responders were called just after 9 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch records. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department radio traffic, the teen was reportedly “bleeding out” inside the store. The teen was stabbed elsewhere and ran to the convenience store, but Sgt. Becerra of the Sheriff’s Industry Station did not immediately know where the stabbing actually occurred. Becerra did say the teen is in stable condition. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Operation Safe Streets bureau are investigating a potential gang tie to this stabbing. |
