Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE - Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man who fell from a roof after fleeing Industry deputies July 4.
The suspect, identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner as 21-year-old Edward Matos, barricaded himself on a roof in the 500 block of Whiteford Avenue after running from deputies. The suspect was initially armed with a handgun, which was recovered after he ran, according to Captain Tim Murakami of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station in a social media post. Matos also had a no-bail warrant, Murakami said. Matos was sought after deputies received a 9-1-1 call of a disturbance in the 500 block of Jellick Avenue around 2:44 p.m. Matos went to a home there to apparently retrieve personal property and argued with his girlfriend. The girlfriend called deputies, according to Sgt. Ernie Barbosa of the Industry Sheriff’s Station. Deputies secured the area around the home where Matos was perched on top of and summoned a K9 unit to assist. Matos reportedly appeared to be very agitated and appeared to be under the influence, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Matos fell while attempting to flee to a neighboring roof. He began foaming at the mouth when he was being taken into custody. Matos died at an area hospital mere hours later, Barbosa said. |
