DETECTIVES: Traffic Collision Victim was Suspect who Died After San Dimas Burglary Friday10/31/2020 Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - The man who crashed and suffered major injuries Friday was identified as a suspect who allegedly broke into an occupied home where he was stabbed fatally by an occupant.
The break-in occurred in the 400 block of Portola Street just before 4 a.m. October 30. After kicking in the front door, the suspect was confronted by the homeowner who stabbed him during an altercation, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The unidentified suspect fled the location only to crash minutes later on East Arrow Highway at South Walnut Ave., a few blocks south of the break in. The suspect was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he died. The suspect’s identity has not been made public yet. His body has not yet arrived to the county coroner, according to Lt. David Smith of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. “During the break-in, several adults were inside the house but were not injured during the incident,” according to the Sheriffs Information Bureau. There is apparently no known relation between the suspect and homeowner and no motive yet exists. Angel Cruz, 19, allegedly used his white Chevy Camaro to strike a 48-year-old man he had been arguing with at the Via Verde Park and Ride. The two men began fighting with each other after Cruz allegedly became angered for an unknown reason, according to Officer Rodrigo Jimenez of the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office. The victim was parked and sitting at the park and ride, 21320 Via Verde when Cruz approached his vehicle, knocked on the window and asked for directions to a gas station. The victim exited and the two began talking to each other when, for unknown reasons, Cruz began attacking the victim, Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. “The victim tried to get away and the suspect drove after him and hit him with his car,” Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. During the fight, the victim fight back and injured Cruz’s face and hands. “Sometime later, San Dimas parking enforcement located the Camaro and we contacted the suspect and eventually took him into custody,” Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. Cruz was found in the 600 block of Avenida Bernardo, sitting injured inside inside the Camaro, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. Cruz was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. SAN DIMAS - A potentially-armed suspect is hiding somewhere near the 57 freeway north of Arrow Highway after fleeing a vehicle pursued by Pomona police. Deputies responded to the area of Highland Place and Amelia Avenue just after 9:30 p.m. after being notified of a Pomona police pursuit That exited the northbound 57 freeway at Arrow Highway. Two other suspects are in custody and only the one remains at large, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department radio traffic. According to preliminary information, Pomona officers were possibly conducting surveillance on the driver of the suspect vehicle when he fled from officers, initiating the chase. No other information is available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - An armed suspect escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing a Trader Joe’s cashier Monday night, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said. A man with a mask walked into the Trader Joe’s, 856 W. Arrow Hwy., just after 9:30 p.m. and produced a black gun from the backpack he was wearing and pointed the weapon at a cashier, according to Lt. Elisabeth Sachs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The store was apparently closed at 9 p.m. The suspect demanded cash and fled on foot once he received the money, Sachs told SGV CityWatch.
Sachs declined to disclose the amount of cash taken. The suspect was described as a 30-year-old Black man. He stood about 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 180 pounds and he wore a black hooded sweater, black pants and a face mask. He fled east on Cienega Avenue. The suspect remains at large, Sachs told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Deputies announced Tuesday the arrest of a suspect who shot and wounded a man outside a Charter Oak liquor store August 30.
32-year-old Joseph Michael Ramirez was found at a home in the 1800 block of Woodgate Avenue in West Covina September 2 where a handgun was recovered similar to the one used in the shooting, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies said. In the wake of the shooting, detectives identified Ramirez as a suspect. His car was found at a San Dimas motel August 31, but Ramirez was nowhere to be found. He was later located in West Covina, deputies said. Ramirez was formally charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with a felony charge of attempted murder and firearms-related felonies, deputies said. Ramirez is accused of shooting a 36-year-old man who approached the vehicle he and a female companion were sitting in outside Charter Oak Liquor, 20040 Arrow Hwy., around 8:14 p.m., August 30. The victim stumbled into the liquor store and collapsed after being struck in the mid-torso area, according to Lt. Elisabeth Sachs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. Ramirez is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He made an initial appearance in court Friday.

SAN DIMAS - As many as five people were detained Monday night after a pursuit led by the CHP and Azusa Police ended with a crash.
The suspects were tied to a shooting that occurred in Azusa. The suspects in a white sedan refused to yield for Azusa officers and a chase wound its way through Azusa and Glendora via surface streets and the 210 freeway. The pursuit entered Baldwin Park and Irwindale from the 605 freeway where the suspects used surface streets before going back to Azusa. The driver used eastbound Arrow Highway to escape into San Dimas where the driver crashed into another car. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - An unknown suspect fired several rounds from a handgun into the ground just outside rooms near Motel 6 Saturday morning, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said.
The shooting took place south of the Motel 6, 502 W. Arrow Hwy., around 6:37 a.m. April 18. Video surveillance showed the suspect as he opened fire, according to Lt. Mark Skaggs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. “Deputies did find three expended 9mm shell casings on the south side of the motel. A male Hispanic in all dark clothing with a hooded sweatshirt covering his head was walking along in front of the rooms and shot into the ground,” Skaggs told SGV CityWatch. No one was injured. SAN DIMAS - Authorities released security footage of a suspect forcefully taking lottery tickets from two stores in town.
The suspect calmly entered a retail store January 22 at 10:24 a.m. in the 1400 block of West Arrow Highway and proceeded to rip a display case of lottery scratchers from a counter. He ran out the entrance, according to video provided by the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station.
At 6:18 p.m. the same day, the suspect walked into an eatery in the 100 block of West Arrow Highway and did the same.
The suspect was caught on camera fleeing the last store west on Arrow Highway in a newer-model, four-door silver Chrysler 300C with paper plates. The serial numbers on the tickets were reported to the California state lottery, the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station said. The suspect is a Black man in his late 20s to early 30s, stands 6 feet tall, weighs 180 to 200 pounds, has a close-cut mustache and goatee. He wore a black Cabala baseball hat with white lettering, a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and dark tennis shoes. Deputies responded to the robbery after a teller tripped an alarm at 12:55 p.m. at the bank, 1001 W. Arrow Hwy. The female suspect fled out the front entrance, according to Sgt. Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. Long declined to state how much money the suspect took.
A suspect vehicle description was not available. The suspect is a woman of an unknown race and has black hair. She stood 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed 200 pounds. |
