The vandalism was caught on camera after hours. At least one person, described as a man in a black hoodie, black long shorts and black shoes, used black spray paint to deface property, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The type of defacing done was not disclosed. A second suspect was described as a female in all dark clothing. A third female was seen wearing a black blouse and light-colored pants, according to the Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A wanted stolen vehicle suspect fled through an apartment complex and a county library before being arrested Saturday morning. The suspect was taken into custody November 2 without further incident after fleeing through the City of San Dimas Public Library, 145 N. Walnut Ave., according to Lt. Ed Mackenzie of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. Deputies on patrol saw Ronnie Terry, a San Dimas resident, on foot and tried to speak with him, but he fled, Mackenzie said. Extra deputies, aided by a helicopter, searched for Terry as he ran through an apartment complex behind Albertsons, 220 E. Bonita Ave. he eventually ran into the library and out the rear of the building where deputies found and arrested him near City Hall.
Vigilant residents provided deputies with the Terry’s movements, leading to his capture, Mackenzie said. After being detained in a deputy’s patrol car, Terry allegedly kicked the patrol car’s window repeatedly and caused $400 in damage to the frame, Mackenzie said. Terry, who was wanted in a stolen vehicle incident last week, was booked on suspicion of the illegal taking of a vehicle and felony vandalism, Mackenzie said. Terry is scheduled for an appearance in Pomona Superior Court November 5. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Deputies announce Tuesday the arrests of three teen boys in connection with the swastika vandalisms and other crimes committed in the area. The teens were located in San Dimas Monday, April 8. Witness statements, physical evidence, surveillance video and statements from the teens themselves connected the suspects to the crimes, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. A 14-year-old from Long Beach, a 13-year-old from Covina and a 13-year-old from Hemet were identified. Their names are being withheld because they are juveniles, the Sheriff’s Department said.
An additional swastika was burned on the roadway in the 1200 block of Stratford Lane in San Dimas Sunday, April 7 -- roughly three days after similar vandalisms were discovered on the roadway at Valley Center Avenue and on synthetic lawn in the 1400 block of Greenhaven Street. The swastikas were burned using flammable aerosol cans and cigarette lighters, the Sheriff’s Department said. Three small brush fires were also set in the 800 block of West Covina Boulevard April 7 and a security camera was vandalized at the location, the Sheriff’s Department said. Detectives investigating the vandalism learned the suspects were seen in the area late at night during the time frame the crimes occurred. “No motive for these acts was yet discovered, but the investigation indicates the acts of hate, arson and vandalism were not directed at any particular person(s),” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. All three teens are housed in a juvenile detention facility. A search warrant was served April 8 to find additional evidence. The case against the teens will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Possible charges include arson, hate crimes and vandalism. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A $10,000 reward will be considered by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects involved in the hate crime vandalism. Supervisor Kathryn Barger will ask the Board of Supervisors to consider the reward. "These are blatant symbols of hate and violence that have a serious and troubling impact on everyone in our community,” Barger said. “Those responsible should be held fully accountable for their actions.” Swastika symbols were etched into the synthetic lawn of a residence in the 1400 block of Greenhaven Street and onto the southbound and northbound lanes of Valley Center Avenue near the Metrolink railroad tracks.
Deputies believe the vandalism occurred between 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 and 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 4. Detectives have not yet received viable clues regarding the crime, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. SAN DIMAS - Acts of vandalism were discovered Thursday after swastika symbols were etched into asphalt and onto someone’s synthetic lawn.
The vandalisms are believed to have occurred between 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 and 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 4, according to Sgt. Pete Shupe of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station.
A black, caustic liquid was used in both cases. The roadway on northbound Valley Center Avenue at the Metrolink tracks was defaced, as well as a portion of a resident’s synthetic lawn on Greenhaven Avenue. Deputies have no information on the description of a suspect, or even how many suspects may be involved. It is unclear if anyone was the target of the vandalism. Anyone with information on the vandalism is urged to call the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station at 909-450-2700. |
