Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - Police arrested a 19-year-old man Saturday after he brought in a replica fire arm that he allegedly wanted to brandish in the event of social unrest.
The suspect was arrested at Super King Market, 436 Auto Centre Dr., just after 11:30 a.m. March 14. A shopper witnessed the fire arm tucked into the suspect’s waistband at the small of his back. Fearing a potential shooting was about to occur, police arrived with the lights and sirens, according to the Claremont Police Department. The suspect was quickly detained. The publicly-unidentified suspect admitted he wanted to defend himself if unrest did occur, Claremont Police said. “The gun, while looking authentic, was determined to be a replica firearm with the required red-tip removed,” Claremont Police said in a written statement. The suspect was booked at the Claremont jail and later released with a citation for misdemeanor violations, Claremont Police said. |
