Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR - A motorcyclist was killed after colliding with the rear of a stalled car on the eastbound 60 freeway just west of Grand Avenue Friday night.
Reports from the scene indicated a Dodge Charger stalled in the No. 1 lane. The motorcyclist struck the rear of the Charger around 9:40 p.m. and landed an estimated 20 feet onto the roadway, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. A white van reportedly struck the downed motorcycle and rider who landed in front of the stalled Charger. By around 11 p.m., authorities had all eastbound lanes of the 60 freeway just west of Grand Avenue shut down, as well as the flyover from the northbound 57 freeway to the eastbound 60 freeway, according to the CHP. By 1:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities had all lanes open after the crash was cleared and the coroner removed the body, according to the CHP. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR - A teen was hit by a vehicle near Chaparral Middle School Tuesday. A vehicle was moving at an estimated 20 to 30 miles per hour when it hit the teen, according to Sgt. Estep of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. The crash occurred around 7:32 a.m. in the 22500 block of East Mountain Laurel Way.
The teen suffered a head contusion, Estep said. A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter landed at Chaparral Middle School and the teen was airlifted to a trauma center, according to Inspector Narvaez of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The driver remained at the scene. An updated condition was not readily available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR – A pursuit suspect died at the scene after striking a concrete pole while evading Pomona officers. The suspect, only described as a male, fled officers who tried to conduct a traffic stop on South Reservoir Street near the off ramp from the eastbound 60 freeway in Pomona, according to Public Information Officer Aly Mejia of the Pomona Police Department. The pursuit began around 2:30 a.m. January 21.
The pursuit entered Diamond Bar where the rider crashed, Mejia said. Firefighters were called by Pomona Police to the area of West Mission Boulevard and West Temple Avenue at 2:40 a.m. to a solo motorcycle crash, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fatality crash is being investigated by deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station. An unspecified number of sedans and an SUV may have been involved in the collision in the middle lanes of the eastbound 60 freeway at Grand Avenue, which was first reported to authorities at 4:44 a.m. August 4. One driver reported seeing a body in traffic lanes.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating a report from the scene that a male driver fled the crash. One other person was critically injured and hospitalized. All eastbound lanes of the 60 freeway at Grand Avenue were closed at 5:34 a.m. The Sig Alert was extended eventually. The fatal crash occurred at 9:28 p.m. November 23, minutes after an occupant of the stopped silver Chevrolet Cruze called authorities and said their son fled the vehicle with the car keys, according to the California Highway Patrol. A white pickup truck may have struck the victim, the CHP said. The victim’s family was reportedly in the vehicle and stopped on the right shoulder for an unknown reason before the victim fled. The victim’s mother was apparently behind the wheel of the Cruze, according to the CHP. The collision occurred between three vehicles on the northbound 57 freeway transition road to the eastbound 60 freeway just before 12:30 a.m. One person has died at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The north 57 transition road to the east 60 remains closed, as well as the No. 3 and 4 lanes of the east 60 freeway to the south 57, the CHP said. The SUV with an unknown number of adults and children struck the center diver just before 1:30 p.m. At least one occupant was partially ejected, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Ford Explorer rolled multiple times and came to rest near the divider. The children in the SUV were being pulled out of the overturned vehicle, according to California Patrol Traffic Logs. One victim received a laceration to the head, another received an arm injury. Two people in the speeding vehicle were killed after it hit the apartment unit in the 23600 block of Golden Springs Drive around 11:40 p.m., according to Lt. Avola of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. There was one person inside the apartment unit who apparently was uninjured, Avola said. One of the four total patients was hospitalized,while a second refused medical help, according to Dispatch Supervisor Jeremy Stafford of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The vehicle crashed through brush and some trees before hitting the apartment, Avola said. It is unclear if alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving played a factor. Javier Jose Velasquez Grimaldo, 24, of Rowland Heights, was found lifeless on Brea Canyon Road near the southbound 57 freeway around 4:20 a.m. August 27. Grimaldo was southbound on the 57 freeway in a 2004 Mazda 3 when, for unknown reasons, he veered left, struck the center divider and rolled his vehicle, which came to a rest on the right shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol. Grimaldo exited his vehicle and allegedly tried to force his way into a parked big rig on the right shoulder, the CHP said. The driver of the big rig, an Apple Valley man, fled in fear of his life. The rig, which was still running, began moving with Grimaldo clinging to it. He then either jumped, or fell from the big rig and onto Brea Canyon Road, the CHP said. An autopsy has yet to be performed. The CHP is trying to determine if the body is connected to a collision that occurred around the same time. A vehicle reportedly struck the divider and sped across lanes before rolling down an embankment. The body was discovered around 4:10 a.m., according to Officer Christian Cracraft of the California Highway Patrol. Los Angeles County Firefighters were called to an unknown medical call at the location at 4:20 a.m. Firefighters were told of a body in lanes of traffic, according to Art Marrujo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. |
