Monrovia police officers were called to Live Oak Memorial Park around 1:41 p.m. August 26 to multiple calls of gunfire. Police located a suspect in a gray truck who refused to pull over and he recklessly drove around the cemetery, according to the Monrovia Police Department. The pursuit led to surface streets and officers ended the pursuit due to safety reasons, according to Lt. Donchig of the Monrovia Police Department in a written statement. Issac Guevara, 47, was located by the California Highway Patrol and detained in the area of the 60 freeway and Santa Anita Avenue September 4. Guevara was then arrested by Monrovia detectives and booked on suspicion of felony evading and violating a domestic violence restraining order, according to Sergeant Anaya of the Monrovia Police Department. During their investigation, detectives could not prove that Guevara fired the shots heard by patrons at the cemetery, Anaya told SGV CityWatch. Guevara is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility and is next scheduled for an appearance in Pasadena Superior Court September 27. The Monrovia Police Department received several 911 calls about shots fired at the cemetery, 200 East Duarte Rd., at 1:41 p.m. Saturday, August 26. Responding officers located a suspect vehicle, the driver of which refused to pull over, according to Monrovia Police Lt. John Donchig. According to Monrovia Police Department radio traffic, the high-speed pursuit went southbound on California Avenue from the cemetery and reached speeds of around 60 miles per hour. “Eventually the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons,” Donchig told SGV CityWatch. Donchig declined to provide more details as the investigation continues. The suspect in a red helmet and black jacket sped from officers and ran through red lights and stop signs, sometimes traveling at speeds topping 100 miles per hour, according to the Monrovia Police Department. The rider also used a portion of the 210 freeway to escape police. The rider is wanted for felony evasion and reckless driving, according to the Monrovia Police Department. The suspect fled from a traffic stop at California Avenue and Duarte Road around 7:30 p.m. July 2. Police pursued a grey Toyota Tacoma which callers reported stolen during the chase, Monrovia Police said.
The grand theft auto occurred a few blocks from the start of the pursuit. The Tacoma crashed at Redell Avenue and Shrode Avenue in unincorporated Monrovia. The suspect fled on foot and hid in a nearby neighborhood, Monrovia Police said. A Pasadena Police helicopter, El Monte Police, Irwindale Police and Sheriff’s deputies helped Monrovia officers locate the man in a residential pool. He was arrested without further incident, Monrovia Police said. The unidentified driver is accused of running a stop sign in Monrovia just before 8:30 p.m. May 20. The chase left surface streets and entered the southbound 605 freeway, according to Lt. Sarah Covarrubias of the Monrovia Police Department. The pursuit transitioned to the west I-10 freeway where the driver exited onto Peck Road North and stopped near the Longo Toyota dealership. The driver was arrested with help from El Monte Police.

The teen’s age was not immediately known. Monrovia Police were informed of the pursuit suspect driving in their city after Arcadia Police ended the chase due to unsafe speeds, according to the Monrovia Police Department. Arcadia Police initiated a traffic stop of the teen in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive in Arcadia at 7:55 p.m. after learning the vehicle was stolen. The teen initially pull dover, but then sped away, according to Sgt. John Bonomo of the Arcadia Police Department. Monrovia Police took the boy into custody and are handling the collision investigation. Police tried to stop the suspect after he fled Kohl’s, 504 W. Huntington Dr., Wednesday, but he refused to pull over and fled officers recklessly, according to Lt. Tom Loy of the Monrovia Police Department. The suspect was seen concealing merchandise in his clothing by Kohl’s employees. Once he exited the parking lot, police tried to pull him over on surface streets, Monrovia Police said. The driver entered the westbound 210 freeway without headlights on, driving nearly 100 miles per hour. Police decided to end the chase, given the driver’s reckless nature because he was accused of merely committing a property crime, Loy said. Officers obtained the vehicle registration information to find the suspect’s home, but the license plate led back to a reported stolen vehicle, Loy said. The investigation is ongoing. |
