Firefighters were dispatched to South Acacia Street south of Bonita Avenue at 6:20 p.m. One victim was transported to a trauma center, the second victim was declared dead at the scene, according to Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Deputies believe the shooting may have stemmed from an incident at a nearby restaurant, according Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station radio Traffic. The victim transported received multiple gunshot wounds, according to firefighter radio traffic. The scene is eerily quiet where the shooting happened at an apartment complex along pitch-black Acacia Street. A large group of deputies were talking at-length with an irate man as he stood behind a black security fence at the complex. Patrons of nearby Chapparal Lanes are either unaware or unfazed by the shooting. It is unclear if a suspect has been apprehended. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - An unidentified rider died after crashing his motorcycle into the median and was subsequently hit by a vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
The collision occurred in westbound lanes of the I-10 freeway west of Kellogg Drive around 9:15 p.m. December 19, according to the CHP. The 29-year-old rider of a 2016 Yamaha was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead. He suffered blunt force trauma, the CHP said. The driver who hit the rider was uninjured, the CHP said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A young boy was flown by helicopter to an area trauma center after being hit by a driver Saturday afternoon. The boy, described as 11 years old, was standing at the southeast corner of Valley Center Avenue and Arrow Highway when a black Dodge Charger east on Arrow Highway allegedly ran a red light, clipped a vehicle, spun around and hit the child, according to witnesses at the scene. The second vehicle was attempting to turn south on Valley Center from westbound Arrow Highway. The boy was in stable condition while being treated by firefighters, but an updated condition was not available.
The boy was preparing to cross Arrow Highway with his mother, both had bicycles with them when the crash occurred, according to witnesses at the scene. The driver of the Charger was also transported to an area hospital. The boy’s and mother’s property remained at the scene Saturday afternoon, including their bicycles and the boy’s shoes. It is unclear if any arrests were made. The California Highway Patrol is handling the crash. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A driver got away with only a complaint of pain after speed likely caused a violent crash on San Dimas Canyon Road Thursday afternoon.
The driver was driving south on San Dimas Canyon Road around 5:45 p.m. when she crossed over into the opposing lane and struck a metal guard rail near Caballo Ranch Road. The crash ripped the driver side door off and the vehicle came to rest on top of the rail, according to Lt. Mark Skaggs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The vehicle then ignited, Skaggs said. “A witness was actually able to run over and pull the driver from the vehicle before she suffered any really serious injuries,” Skaggs said. The driver, who complained of pain to a leg and her abdomen was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. About 20 feet of metal guard rail was destroyed. The vehicle was destroyed by fire, Skaggs said. Skaggs did not know if alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving was a factor in the crash. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Two men were arrested Tuesday morning after Good Samaritans followed them from the scene of a suspicious brush above Azusa.
The unnamed suspects were taken into custody by San Dimas Sheriff’s deputies after they were detained by Azusa Police officers, according to Sgt. Pete Shupe of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The Good Samaritans followed the suspects as they drove down San Gabriel Canyon Road until they got cell phone service to call authorities. “Azusa PD received a phone call from people who said they were following a vehicle in which they saw two males start a fire,” Shupe said. Azusa officers detained the men on Sierra Madre Avenue. The investigation was handled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail. The case was then handed to the U.S. Forest Service, which apparently has the names of the men arrested, according to Deputy Juanita Navarro of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The U.S. Forest Service has yet to return a call for suspect booking information. The fire burned near Morris Dam in the 9500 block of North San Gabriel Canyon Road. Los Angeles County firefighters were dispatched to assist the U.S. Forest Service at 2:53 a.m. August 7. Firefighting helicopters from both county fire and the U.S. Forest service assisted ground crews. Power lines fell near the fire and inhibited the firefight, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. About 104 customers were initially without power, according to Southern California Edison. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - An accidental fire is being blamed for a fire that destroyed a detached garage in San Dimas Saturday.
The fire was reported in a detached garage in the 200 block of West 1st Street at 11:47 a.m. Los Angeles County Firefighters arrived and quickly knocked down flames. The cause of the fire was an electrical issue, according to Lt. Elisabeth Sachs of the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station. A vehicle parked in the garage was also destroyed. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A four-door sedan and a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s patrol SUV collided in the middle of Lone Hill Avenue and Arrow Highway Independence Day.
The collision occurred around 11:53 a.m. A deputy was responding to an emergency call in the 1100 block of Arrow Highway when, for unknown reasons, the Sheriff’s SUV and a vehicle collided, said Sgt. Matthew Bodell of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The dark blue, four-door car sustained major front-end damage. The Sheriff’s SUV jumped a sidewalk and came to a rest on a grassy area outside the Arco gas station, 1115 W. Arrow Hwy. No one in either vehicle required hospitalization, Bodell said. A report has yet to be completed. Bodell did not know if the civilian driver ran a red light, nor did he know the direction of travel for either vehicle. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A home was heavily destroyed after a fire tore through the interior and injuring firefighters Friday afternoon.
Both firefighters suffered minor injuries. The fire tore through the attic, causing an internal collapse which may have briefly trapped both firefighters, according to Los Angeles County Fire Deartment radio traffic. Both firefighters were freed from the small collapse and later hospitalized with minor injuries. The fire was reported around 2:33 p.m. in the 800 block of Dumaine Avenue. Access to ventilate the roof was made difficult due to solar paneling, firefighters reported. No other injuries were reported. The cause was not disclosed. |
