The crash was reported to the CHP at 4:11 a.m. December 31. It is not immediately clear if anyone was injured when the semi and tractor trailer fell. The Los Angeles County Fire Department has hazmat units still on scene assessing the crash. The fire is burning behind 444 E. Bonita Ave. The fire is also affecting nearby trees. There is no threat to any homes or businesses, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire was first dispatched at 6:07 p.m. The reservoir is a concrete structure with no water and only vegetation inside. Access inside to battle the flames is difficult, according to firefighters. The fire is 20 percent contained, according to the Los Angeles county fire department.
UPDATE, 6:41 a.m.: 100 acres have now been burned as the San Dimas fire moves to the north and west in the foothills above San Dimas and La Verne, according to the La Verne Police Department. UPDATE, 5:44 a.m.: The San Dimas Fire has reached about 60 acres and has the potential to scorch 100 acres. Los Angeles County firefighters are working in unified command with the U.S. Forest Service. UPDATE, 4:41 a.m.: The brush fire burning above San Dimas/La Verne is holding at 20 acres. It is burning into Angeles National Forest territory. The U.S. Forest Service is on scene. The Los Angeles county fire department has requested a second alarm response, doubling resources at the scene. SAN DIMAS - An estimated 10-acre brushfire is moving fast and uphill in the San Dimas foothills Friday morning. The fire is burning in the area of North San Dimas Canyon Road and Golden Hills Road November 6. Three helicopters have been added to the full brushfire response, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters do not believe that structures are threatened at the time the story was launched. The pilot of one Los Angeles County Fire helicopter was able to already see the fire well-established from the helipad at Brackett Field in La Verne at the time it was dispatched just before 4 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - A man died after being involved in a three-vehicle crash on a San Dimas Street Friday afternoon.
Armando Casimiro, 55, was identified by Sarah Ardalani, public information officer for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Casimiro was taken to an area hospital, along with two other victims, according to Dispatch Supervisor Troy of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The crash occurred just after 2 p.m. Friday, August 14 on Covina Boulevard near the southbound 57 freeway off ramp. A black truck, white truck and dark-colored sedan collided. Additional details remain hidden Tuesday, as far as the direction of travel and possible speed of each vehicle and if drunk driving was a contributing factor. SGV CityWatch was told a detective at the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Station was investigating the crash, however the detective could not be reached. It is unclear if any arrests have been made. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A driver crashed into a power pole early Sunday, causing severe damage to the pole and outages nearby. The crash occurred on Arrow Highway between Walnut Avenue and San Dimas Canyon Road just after 5 a.m. October 27. Deputies are redirecting traffic. Live wires fell across traffic lanes and briefly ignited grass on a center median across Arrow Highway, according to Sgt. Michael McGrattan of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The 23-year-old driver was reportedly uninjured, but she was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution, McGrattan said.
Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported two people were hospitalized in the crash with one being taken to a trauma center for treatment. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, McGrattan said. Southern California Edison Reports as many as 60 customers are without power. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Two deputies were mildly injured Wednesday after a stolen vehicle suspect began fighting with them in a shopping center parking lot. Deputies responded to the Big 5 Sporting Goods parking lot, 1073 W. Arrow Hwy., around 1:15 p.m. October 23 to search for a reported stolen vehicle from Montclair which was tracked through GPS, according to Lt. Mark Skaggs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The suspect was entering the Mercedes-Benz SUV, saw the arriving deputies and decided to walk away. He refused to comply with deputies, Skaggs said. Deputies eventually employed use of force to subdue the suspect, including pepper spray, Skaggs said. The suspect sustained scraped and bruises. One deputy complained of pain to his head after being struck. The second deputy sustained an injury to his nose, Skaggs said.
The suspect and deputies were examined at area hospitals and were released, Skaggs said. Denzel Thompson, 27, was booked on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and felony assault on a peace officer, Skaggs said. Thompson is being held without bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Municipal Court October 25. The fire was reported around 9:49 a.m. near the southbound 57 freeway to 71 freeway interchange October 16. Firefighters announced forward progress on the Fire was stopped around 10:14 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The Canadian-manufactured Super Scoopers were called, but have since been cancelled. A two-hour Sig Alert was issued for the No. 2, 3, and 4 lanes of the south 57 north of Via Verde for firefighters to work, the California Highway Patrol said. The fire ignited near the eastbound I-10 freeway east of Via Verde just after 1:30 p.m. August 17. A vehicle described as a Dodge Avenger caught fire on the right shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol. Forward progress of the brush fire has stopped. No structures are threatened. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Two people were hospitalized Thursday as a precaution after a collision sent a black car crashing onto a sidewalk and landing on its roof.
The collision between a black sedan and grey sedan occurred at Badillo Street and Valley Center Avenue around 8:13 p.m. July 8. A black sedan eastbound on Badillo Street collided with a sedan southbound on Valley Center Avenue, said Lt. Ed Mackenzie of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The two occupants of the grey sedan were treated at the scene. The two occupants of the black sedan complained of pain and were taken to a nearby hospital, Mackenzie said. Firefighters were dispatched to South Acacia Street south of Bonita Avenue at 6:20 p.m. One victim was transported to a trauma center, the second victim was declared dead at the scene, according to Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Deputies believe the shooting may have stemmed from an incident at a nearby restaurant, according Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station radio Traffic. The victim transported received multiple gunshot wounds, according to firefighter radio traffic. The scene is eerily quiet where the shooting happened at an apartment complex along pitch-black Acacia Street. A large group of deputies were talking at-length with an irate man as he stood behind a black security fence at the complex. Patrons of nearby Chapparal Lanes are either unaware or unfazed by the shooting. It is unclear if a suspect has been apprehended. |
