Deon Armstrong-Williams, 25, from Duarte and Trayvon Dixon, 21, from Azusa were arrested January 28. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office which filed murder charges against the suspects, according to the Monrovia Police Department. Antonio Zaza, 27, was gunned down inside of Al’s Liquor, 412 W. Duarte Rd., around 8:20 p.m. December 23. Zaza died of a gunshot wound to the torso at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Both Dixon and Williams are being held ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pasadena Superior Court February 8. Terry Alford was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators believe the shooting is gang-related. Monrovia officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of East Los Angeles Avenue around 5:03 p.m. January 29. “Monrovia officers administered first aid until the arrival of Monrovia Fire Department at which time the victim was pronounced dead at the scene,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. While homicide detectives state that there is no suspect or vehicle description, three possible suspects fled the area in a four-door Honda Civic, according to Monrovia Police radio traffic. The shooting occurred in the 100 block of East Los Angeles Avenue. One person was fatally shot. He died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The shooting occurred around 5 p.m. January 29. Three possible suspects fled the area in a four-door Honda Civic, according to Monrovia Police radio traffic. Assisting Monrovia Police with a containment are the Arcadia and Sierra Madre police departments. Officers from the Monrovia Police Department arrived to the scene in the 400 block of West Duarte Road after being called to a shots fired report at 8:19 p.m. The man was found suffering a gunshot wound to the upper torso, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The time of death was pronounced at 8:26 p.m., according to Monrovia Police radio traffic. Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau arrived to take over the investigation and canvassed the area for witnesses and evidence. Investigators have not revealed the type of business the man was shot at. Monrovia officers have been in contact with the business owner who was called to the scene. Therese Papagayo, 36, died from blunt force traumatic injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Papagayo was holding her 15-month-old son when both were struck by a Metro L Line light rail train around 8:46 a.m. at California Avenue and Duarte Road April 15. Monrovia Firefighters declares both victims dead at 9 a.m., according to Ramon Montenegro of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. The toddler’s identity has yet to be revealed. A vehicle traveling westbound in eastbound lanes of the 210 freeway struck another vehicle just east of Huntington Drive around 4:43 a.m. The wrong way vehicle was traveling at high speed in the HOV lane and was seen by other drivers as far back as Vernon Avenue in Azusa, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. One of the vehicles overturned. All eastbound lanes were initially closed for an investigation. Both on ramps from Huntington Drive to the eastbound 210 remain closed. The No. 4 lane was opened to traffic just after 6 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - Police believe a man shot himself to death with a flare gun on Peck Road Thursday afternoon. The still unidentified victim died either en route to or after arriving to Huntington Memorial Hospital. The shooting took place outside near LKQ Pick Your Part, 3333 Peck Rd. November 7, according to Sgt. Chad Harvey of the Monrovia Police Department. Monrovia Firefighters and Police responded around 3:16 p.m.
The Irwindale Police Department initially received 9-1-1 calls of shots fired and calls of smoke seen in the area -- likely due to the volume of smoke emitted by the flare gun, Harvey said. The victim, a Black male in his 40s, has yet to be publicly named until next of kin have been notified, according to coroner Public Information Officer Sarah Ardalani. A passerby witnessed the publicly-unidentified man fall from the fifth floor of the hotel in the 700 block of West Huntington Drive around 10:04 p.m. Arriving officers found a 54-year-old man on the ground, according to Sgt. Gerald DeHart of the Monrovia Police Department.
The incident unfolded at the Courtyard by Marriott, 700 Huntington Dr. August 16. The man was unconscious and bleeding from a head wound, DeHart said. DeHart declined to state if the man had family or friends inside the hotel. The Hispanic woman in her 40s, along with her teen daughter, were found dead by Monrovia officers responding to a reported assault in the apartment unit in the 800 block of West Colorado Boulevard. The mother was pronounced dead at 1:48 p.m. The girl was pronounced dead at 1:50 p.m., according to Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Autopsies are pending on both, which will publicly reveal the manner of death, which homicide detectives continue to keep hidden. The suspect, 33-year-old Nimrod Perez Guerrero, is still outstanding. Perez Guerrero has been identified as the on-again/off-again boyfriend of the mother. Monrovia Police received a transferred call originally placed with Alhambra Police of an assault that occurred in the apartment. Monrovia officers arrived and discovered an open window. Upon entering, they found both females dead. The girl was a senior at Monrovia High School, which is just across the street from where she was found dead. Fellow classmates of the girl arrived to the scene to mourn their friend. Monrovia Unified School District Superintendent Katherine Thorossian issued a statement Thursday: “It is with great sadness that I share that we have lost one of our Monrovia High School seniors and her mother.Our heartfelt prayers and thoughts go out to their family and friends. As we grapple with this tragic news, which will affect so many in our tight-knit community, I want to note upfront that counseling support will be offered on campus for our students and staff,” Thorossian said. Perez Guerrero may be driving in a grey 2014 Toyota Rav4 with the license plate 7FPB132.
