CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Deputies arrested a man Friday the 13th, accusing him of being the gunman in a recent shooting. Deputies performed a traffic stop on the suspect around 3:15 a.m. after realizing the vehicle matched the description of a vehicle seen in a shooting within the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station patrol area weeks prior, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “While detained, the driver self admitted to being involved in the shooting. During a search of the vehicle, deputies recovered an unregistered loaded firearm, and a controlled substance,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. Jonathan Acosta, 35, was booked on felony charges at 3:15 a.m. He remains in custody in the San Dimas jail in lieu of $30,000 bail. CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A man crossing a road on a bicycle was struck and killed by a truck Friday night. The crash happened in northbound lanes of San Dimas Avenue near East Baseline Road January 9 around 6:30 p.m. The bicyclist was taken to a hospital where he later died, according to Lt. Rizzio of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. A gray pickup truck was stopped in the middle of the road, collision damage twisted and crumpled the hood. The truck’s driver remained at the scene. The collision initially appears to be accidental, Rizzio told SGV CityWatch. CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A man died by suicide November 17 in a residential area near the border with La Verne. David Carter, 72, died after turning a weapon on himself in a yard, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. First responders were sent to Sedalia Avenue near East Juanita Avenue just after 6:30 a.m. Carter was found near a driveway across from homes on Sedalia, close to the Metropolitan Water District treatment facility, according to Sgt. CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A pedestrian died on the 57 freeway near Arrow Highway August 9. The southbound No. 3 and 4 lanes as well as the Arrow Highway on ramp are closed for a Sig Alert, according to the California Highway Patrol. The first calls the CHP received started just before 10 p.m. One report indicated a male in a white shirt walking near the center divider, while another report indicated a man walking in the slow lane. A white sedan with front-end damage stopped on the freeway about a half mile south of the crash scene, but it is unclear if the vehicle is related to the fatality. ********** Copyright 2025. CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - An unconscious woman was found floating in a San Dimas swimming pool July 27. First responders were sent to the 400 block of East Bonita Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Deputies arrived, found the woman in the pool and jumped in to pull her out, according to Lieutenant Fillpot of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. First responders performed CPR on the woman, described as being in her 60s, who was then taken to San Dimas Community Hospital. Deputies did not receive a follow up call from hospital staff on the condition of the woman, Fillpot told SGV CityWatch. It is unclear if the woman suffered, a medical emergency, or if drugs or alcohol, played a factor in the incident. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Barstow Police detectives uncovered a cache of 51 weapons, including several unregistered assault weapons and a military-grade rocket-propelled grenade launcher May 28. The weapons were found after detectives descended on the home with a search warrant as part of a vehicle burglary investigation. A reported $10,000 in personal property was stolen from a vehicle in the 2500 block of High Point Parkway in the city of Barstow around 9:50 p.m. May 25. The weapons, along with the stolen property from the Barstow burglary, were found in a home in the 500 block of Valley Center Avenue in San Dimas. 49-year-old Craig Karim Ramazan of San Dimas was arrested and booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Departments West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of possessing stolen property, possessing an assault rifle and possessing a destructive device, according to the Barstow Police Department. “Due to the presence of illegal firearms and the rocket propelled grenade launcher, the California Department of Justice Bureau of Firearms was contacted and responded to assist with the investigation,” according to the Barstow Police Department in a written statement. CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A male driver died at the scene of a crash near the Antonovich trailhead Sunday night. It is not yet clear what caused the driver to crash through chain-link fence off of Valley Center Avenue near Gainsborough Road and plunge the vehicle 100 feet down the side of the road. First responders were sent to the crash around 8:55 p.m., June 1. The initial report broadcast by the Los Angeles County Fire Department indicated that the driver was ejected from the vehicle and found to be in full cardiac arrest. CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Two men were taken into custody Sunday after allegedly ditching a handgun that was being brandished in public near San Dimas city hall. Deputies responded to a report of a man with a gun near city hall, 245 E. Bonita Ave., around 8:45 a.m. October 20. Deputies arrived and saw four males on foot. Two ran and two were detained at gunpoint, according to Lt. William Fillpot of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. A weapon was recovered. Deputies established a containment area to search for the outstanding suspects. Two men were located and detained at North Iglesia Street and East Bonita Avenue, but deputies determined they were not involved in the original incident and were released, Fillpot told SGV CityWatch. The two fleeing suspects remain at-large. Jonathan Perez, 25, and Jacob Edelhart, 19, were arrested. Perez was booked on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm with a prior felony. Edelhart was booked on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm on their person in a public place. Perez is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail. Edelhart is being held without bail. CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Deputies have detained four suspects Sunday after responding to a report that at least one of them was armed with a handgun. Two of the suspects fled on foot in the 100 block of West First Street while deputies were detaining two other suspects at gunpoint. A discarded handgun was recovered, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department radio traffic. The containment encompassed the area surrounding Bonita Avenue and San Dimas Avenue October 20. Deputies responded to the area around 9 a.m. While containment was being finalized, a deputy found and detained the two remaining suspects at gunpoint near North Iglesia Street and West Bonita Avenue. CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The sword-wielding suspect accused of killing her wife and severely injuring her mother-in-law is expected in court Friday. Weichien Huang, 44, was booked on suspicion of murder. She is reportedly still being held in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station jail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. A reported argument between Huang and her wife, 47-year-old Chen Chen Fei, led to Huang to allegedly murder her spouse. Huang allegedly attacked and severely injured her mother-in-law who wrestled the sword away, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The mother-in-law fled the house, sword in hand and bleeding profusely, and attempted to flag down help when deputies arrived. Fei died from multiple sharp force injuries in the home, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. Fei’s mother remains hospitalized in stable condition. |
