The crash occurred just before 11:30 a.m. in the 3700 block of North Padua Avenue, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch reports. The driver of a Dodge Charger slammed into a tree and fled the crash on foot. He was caught hiding under a car during a yard-to-yard search, according to the Claremont Police Department.
Sgt. David DeMetz identified the suspect as 23-year-old Vicente Peralta of Montclair. He was booked on suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit and run. Peralta is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Court date information was unavailable. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - A man and woman were found in possession of stolen mail and packages from at least six cities, police said. A vigilant resident called officers around 2:35 p.m. April 7 after noticing a black Honda Civic trailing a FedEx truck. The resident witnessed someone from the Civic exit and take a package from a home in the 300 block of Rockford Drive, according to the Claremont Police Department. The Civic left the neighborhood toward Mills Avenue. During a police search of the area, Claremont Police were called about mail theft in the 4400 block of Amundsen Branch. The witness to the mail theft followed the suspects until officers located the Civic and stopped the driver on Monte Vista Avenue at Baseline Road. Both suspects were detained.
“Further investigation revealed that the driver and passenger had been involved in package and mail theft. The officers located at least 15 victims of theft, including four victims from Claremont and additional victims from Redlands, Rialto, Fontana, Riverside, and Moreno Valley,” Claremont Police said in a written statement. The driver, 25-year-oldDaniel Vavau, was also driving under the influence of a controlled substance, in addition to possessing a controlled substance and burglary tools. Passenger Lyric Mena, 24, was in possession of a methamphetamine pipe. Both suspects were jailed and later released on citations, Claremont Police said. Detectives identified a suspect in the March shooting, which took place in the 100 block of Meredith Street. The investigation led to Montclair, where three days of surveillance on 26-year-old suspect Isaias Reyes-Moreno led to his arrest at Kingsley Avenue and Monte Vista Avenue April, Claremont Police said.
Reyes-Moreno was found in possession of a 9-millimeter handgun detectives believe was used in the shooting. Two search warrants served in Montclair and La Verne yielded addition evidence, Claremont Police said. Reyes-Moreno is being held in lieu of $2 million bail. He had a scheduled appearance in court April 3. Officers responded to Indian Hill Boulevard at Mt. Carmel Drive at 12:17 a.m. April 4 to an assault with a deadly weapon report. The victim was found bleeding profusely from the neck, according to the Claremont Police Department. “the victim advised that he had just met the suspects and they were hanging out inside of their vehicle. While inside of the vehicle, a fight erupted and the victim was assaulted, which led to his injuries,” Claremont Police said in a written statement. The victim said the suspects were still nearby and after a search of the area, officers located and detained both suspects inside a vehicle.
Police found evidence on the suspects and inside the vehicle to corroborate the victim’s claims, Claremont Police said. Francisco Ibarra, a 20-year-old Pomona man and 20-year-old Oceanside resident Ezekiel Hensley. Both men are being held in lieu of $30,000 bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in court April 7. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT – Police are searching for burglary victims from Claremont, Hacienda Heights, Pico Rivera and Upland after two suspects were caught with stolen property. Two suspects were detained during a traffic stop at Noon March 30 at Foothill Boulevard and Mills Avenue. An officer saw a large amount of stolen property and burglary tools inside the stopped Hyundai Sonata, according to the Claremont Police Department. The suspects, a 37-year-old El Monte resident, and a 31-year-old Pomona resident were arrested. The Hyundai Sonata was impounded and searched. Theft victims were contacted. The property stolen from the mentioned cities was taken as far back as March 16. Officers also had property stolen from a home near Padua Avenue and Mt. Baldy Road.
Among the charges include possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. Both suspects were cited and released for the misdemeanor crimes, Claremont Police said. “Theft from unlocked vehicles and auto burglaries from locked vehicles have increased during the COVID-19 Stay-at-Home Order,” Claremont Police said in a written statement. “Please help the Police Department during this time by removing valuable property from your vehicles and LOCKING the doors. A Chevron gas station was robbed, 267 S. Indian Hill Blvd., around 9:41 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect entered and lifted his sweatshirt to show 5he handle of a large knife, according to the Claremont Police Department. The employee complied with demands to open the register. The suspect took off with an unknown amount of cash and fled into a waiting black two-door sports car with a modified exhaust and fled west on Arrow Highway, Claremont Police said.
The suspect is a Hispanic man. He stands 6 feet 3 inches tall, has an average build, wore a light grey hooded sweatshirt, a surgical mask, gloves and blue jeans. The shooting occurred in the 100 block of Meredith Street at 6:17 p.m. The suspect shot multiple times at the victim,according to the Claremont Police Department in a written statement. The suspect ran to a waiting Toyota four-door grey sedan with a spoiler) and fled north on Clark Street from Meredith Street.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 30 to 35 years old, has an average build, wore dark clothing and used a semi-automatic handgun, Claremont Police said. Burglars were caught on surveillance camera burrowing through drywall at La West Liquor and Market, 333 E. Arrow Hwy. March 3, in the early morning hours. The getaway vehicle was caught on camera, according to the Claremont Police Department. Claremont Police have not yet mentioned how many other burglars may have been involved and if they have been arrested yet. A patrol officer saw the vehicle parked at Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd. and the officer discovered alcohol and burglary tools clearly visible inside, Claremont Police said.
After learning the suspect’s identity and the room he was staying in, he was arrested as he left his motel room. West Covina resident Frank Hernandez, 40, was booked on suspicion of possessing stolen property, possessing burglary tools, possessing methamphetamine, possessing drug paraphernalia and committing a felony while out on bond, Claremont Police said. Hernandez is scheduled for an appearance in Pomona Superior Court Thursday, March 5. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT – Police announced Friday the arrest of a 67-year-old Covina woman who they allege struck and killed a pedestrian January 8, leaving his body in the roadway. Evidence at the scene led officers to Helen Scheuplein and her vehicle in Pomona at the Hi-Brow bar in the 500 block of West Foothill Boulevard. She was arrested without incident and booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter and hit and run causing death, according to the Claremont Police Department. Scheuplein is accused of killing 50-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man James Radzik in the 1600 block of North Towne Avenue. During Scheuplein’s arrest, officers seized evidence related to the hit and run crash, Claremont Police said.

The collision occurred in the 1600 block of North Towne Avenue near Syracuse Drive. Firefighters returning to their station discovered the body of a 50-year-old man on the roadway, according to the Claremont Police Department. The body was found just after 2:30 a.m. January 8. There is no vehicle or suspect description. A California Highway Patrol broadcast indicated the suspect vehicle should have Major front end damage and windshield damage. |
