Teri Burress, 33, was arrested April 28, caught in the same hotel, the Vanllee Hotel and Suites at 1211 E. Garvey St., around 2:15 p.m. where she was arrested one day prior. She was arrested Tuesday during a followup investigation, Covina Police said. Burress, a transient, is accused of offering prostitution to Freddy Jesus Sanguino, 44, Covina Police said. Officers arrested Burress and two other men April 27 after receiving a tip around 10:50 a.m. of narcotics activity at the hotel. One of the men associated with Burress, Forestt Zane Woodland, 25, was detained after he allegedly sprayed graffiti on a pole on Garvey Avenue.
“Woodland was detained and in possession of burglary tools, heroin, cocaine, Ecstasy pills and related paraphernalia,” Covina Police said in a written statement. Chase William Byer, 21, was also detained by officers and was found in possession of methamphetamine, syringes and other drug paraphernalia, Covina Police said. Both men, also transient, admitted to staying in a room where Burress was staying, Covina Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - The woman accused of stabbing her two-year-old son to death more than a year ago has pleaded not guilty in her son’s killing. Xa Dinh Ngo, 39, also referred to as “Michelle” Ngo, Entered her plea Monday, April 27, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Ngo faces one count of murder with a special allegation of using a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife, in the death of her son, Elvis Puente. Ngo allegedly stabbed her son to death multiple times, prosecutors said. Ngo was briefly hospitalized after a Covina patrol sergeant found Ngo running down the road in the 300 block of North Second Avenue, half-naked and with blood splatters on her body, January 11, 2019 around 3:30 a.m.
Ngo was uncooperative with officers once detained, but alluded to a possible victim, Covina Police said. Officers learned Ngo’s address and discovered a small fire on the second floor of her townhome at 141 E. Italia St. once they arrived. Her son was discovered dead. Ngo was arrested by Covina Police detectives on suspicion of murder once she was discharged. It is unclear if Ngo suffered from a mental condition, or was under the influence of drugs. If convicted as charged, Ngo could face a maximum of 26 years to life in state prison. The unidentified suspect fired a gun into the air from a moving vehicle around 8:54 p.m. The suspect was found after officers located his vehicle, according to Sgt. Coburn of the Covina Police Department. The incident unfolded in the area of East Ruddock Street and North Prospero Drive.
The suspect was located a few blocks away from where the shooting occurred. He was taken into custody without further incident, Coburn told SGV CityWatch. Coburn was unaware of any injuries or damage caused by the shooting. Because the gun was discharged in an area densely populated with apartment complexes, the suspect is facing a charge of shooting at an inhabited dwelling as well as carrying a loaded firearm, Coburn told SGV CityWatch. The fire was dispatched at Noon in the 500 block of E. Tudor St., April 19. Firefighters were initially told the two occupants were unable to escape due to flames blocking a bedroom door. Both victims were eventually taken from the home by firefighters, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. An adult male signed out against medical advice. An adult female with critical injuries later died, firefighters said. It took 25 firefighters to extinguish the flames in 10 minutes, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Investigators were sent to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters responded to a medical emergency call at a residence on East Badillo Street just west of Glendora Avenue around 10:08 a.m. April 18. Both Victims were reportedly in full arrest, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Both victims are in their 20s, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Someone inside the residence called 9-1-1. Zavala wouldn’t say who made the call. Zavala said that investigators were still determining what drug was taken by the victims. Juan Interiano, a 28-year-old Inglewood man, was identified by Lt. Kristy McCracken of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. An autopsy is scheduled in the next two days. The condition of the hospitalized victim was not given, but Zavala said the victim survived the overdose. Jose Javier Salgado, 39, was located at Azusa Avenue and Arrow Highway after three suspicious fires were set. He reportedly admitted to setting the fire at Walmart, according to the Covina Police Department. Salgado was placed on a psychiatric hold, Covina Police said. Firefighters were sent to the first blaze behind the Covina Walmart, 1275 N. Azusa Ave., at 10:36 p.m. April 15. Firefighters finally knocked down the blaze at 11 PM, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman. Cardboard, wood pallets and a forklift burned in the Walmart fire which forced the evacuation of those within, but no injuries were reported, Covina Police said. At 11:34 PM, firefighters were dispatched to a dumpster fire behind Pupuseria Mi Salvador, 474 E. Arrow Hwy. A third fire was ignited at Hollenbeck Park, 1250 N. Hollenbeck Ave. Firefighters were dispatched at 11:48 p.m. to a dumpster fire, Pitman told SGV CityWatch. Salgado is suspected in setting fires April 4 at Covina’s Guitar Center, the Covina Bowl, Walmart, Ross and Loan Max, Covina Police said. Salgado is also accused of igniting a fire in the area of Newburgh Street and Azusa Avenue. Azusa Police captures Salgado after the Newburgh fire, was arrested and placed on a psychiatric hold, Covina Police said. Disgraceful to our community,” Curley said. It is also unclear if the recent fires are connected to a series of fires sparked April 4. A suspect was detained after fires were ignited along the Azusa Avenue corridor in Covina and Azusa. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - Police and detectives arrested a man Tuesday they accuse of committing a series of armed robberies.
The crimes occurred along the Arrow Highway and Azusa Avenue area. The investigation led police to name Jermie Schaviers, 37, as the armed and dangerous suspect, according to the Covina Police Department. Most recently, Schaviers robbed a Harbor Freight Tools, 440 W. Arrow Hwy., and Auto Zone, 1445 N. Citrus Ave. Police located Schaviers who attempted to flee in a vehicle, but he was arrested during a high-risk traffic stop, Covina Police said. Schaviers, a Covina man, has an extensive criminal history and is on active probation, Covina Police said. Schaviers is being held in lieu of $190,000 at the Men’s Central Jail in Downtown Los Angeles. He is scheduled for a court appearance April 2. |
